The nature of immersion, and its relationship to interactivity, is examined, investigating how narrative is constructed and communicated through game play. The subject provides critical perspectives on the notion of gamification and the growing area of research centred around videogame streamers and the labour ecosystem of eSports. It examines a series of gaming tropes and themes, games as texts, and the ways that games enter social frameworks to convey, refract, engage with, and resist power structures. This subject helps you to understand how and why this has happened, and why it matters. It explores the new challenges and possibilities for governance created by the Internet, as well as attempts to control the Internet by governments and others. Science communication has an increasingly vital role to play in a modern, global society. The growing awareness of the threat of climate change, along with the unprecedented impact of COVID-19, has highlighted the importance of the effective communication of science. This subject explores the social, political and ethical implications of science communication in a global society, and will consider: science in the media, science and public policy, science and advocacy, and public engagement with science. You will identify, apply and evaluate science communication strategies for diverse audiences using a range of media and technologies. The subject includes a non-compulsory field trip.

Communicating Science

In this subject you will learn how the Australian Curriculum: Science describes the ultimate goal of science education as being the development of scientific literacy. Science is not simply a body of knowledge but should also be understood as a process of inquiry and a human endeavour. You will engage with scientific understanding about the natural world and learn how science can be taught to primary students in a meaningful way that develops their curiosity and inquiry skills. The relationship between science and technology will also be explored through hands-on activities and readings.

Primary Science & Technology Education

This unit addresses the scientific, technological and policy aspects of global warming. This is a global environmental issue that has potentially major implications for all life on earth, including human society. In recent years the subject of global warming has produced an intense international debate over the scientific basis of the measurements and predictions. Climate Change Science and Policy

This subject was previously known as ECHX827 Learning Through Mathematics, Science and Technology in Early Childhood Settings.This subject explores theories of learning in mathematics, science and technology for young children (birth to five years). Students will examine the specialist role of play and conceptual development in a range of early childhood settings. Current issues in research and practice will be investigated through independent study. Students acquire autonomy and expert knowledge of pedagogy and content for mathematics, science and technology as they design and evaluate learning experiences for young children.

Explore theories of STEM learning for children 0-5 years. Examine conceptual development and how children use play to relay their experiences and make sense of the world. Study curriculum design with an emphasis on mathematics, science and technology.

Learning Through Mathematics, Science and Technology in Early Childhood Settings

This subject was previously known as Curriculum and Instruction Upper Secondary: Science.Curriculum and Instruction Senior Secondary: Science prepares pre-service teachers to teach the Senior Secondary Science curriculum. The focus of the subject is on curriculum planning, teaching strategies, assessment, reporting, the demonstration of positive impact on student learning and research relating to Senior Secondary Science.
