Occupational Hygienists aim to identify, manage and control occupational and environmental hazards across all industries including advising organisations and local communities about the potential health impacts as a result of exposure to hazards. This course will enable you to develop skills as a technician in occupational hygiene, including in the practical aspects of identifying, evaluating, and controlling occupational hazards that could adversely affect the health of workers. You’ll learn about practical skills required to undertake the chemical, physical and biological aspects of occupational hygiene as well as occupational epidemiology, occupational toxicology and the theory of sampling design, depending on the electives chosen. You will apply communication and collaboration skills to demonstrate professional judgement in occupational hygiene contexts. If you’ve completed units in the Graduate Certificate of Occupational Hygiene, you’ll receive credit towards this course. The Diploma can be used as an entry pathway into the Master of Occupational Hygiene and Toxicology.

The purpose of this subject is to develop skills and competencies for leading and managing business sustainability in the global context. The unit explores both challenges and opportunities inherent in the interface between economic, environmental and social requirements, and applies key theories, concepts, frameworks and solutions to those requirements. Students will understand how economic, environmental and social requirements are integral and interrelated parts of the global and geo-political landscape within which businesses operate. Using problem-based learning, a grounding in business ethics and guidance from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, students who complete the unit will be better prepared to develop actions aimed at achieving business sustainability while considering a global perspective. Please Note: If it’s your first time studying a Curtin University subject, you’ll need to complete their compulsory ‘Academic Integrity Program’. Global Business Sustainability

This subject provides an applied approach to the key components of integrated logistics systems, such as procurement, inventory management and transport, whilst also viewing the system holistically. The strategic focus of the subject enables analysis of impacts on logistics activities including disruptive forces such as geopolitical issues and the effect and adoption of emerging technologies. The necessity of the centrality of the customer to effective and efficient logistics operations is an important feature of this subject, as is the decision-making when trade-offs are required between customer service and costs.

Business Logistics

Corporate finance covers important long-term financial decisions made in business organisations. In this subject you will examine Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and gain an advanced and integrated understanding of how to create sustainable value in corporate firms through long-term financial decisions. In the first part of this subject, you will focus on financial analytical techniques such as financial mathematics, valuation of bonds and shares and the relationship between risk and return. In the second part, you will explore the way these financial analytical techniques apply to long-term financial decisions. You will gain the skills and knowledge needed to determine what type of assets to invest in, how to raise the necessary funding, how to choose the mix of debt and equity, and how to reward shareholders.

Corporate Finance

This subject provides students with the fundamental and advanced concepts, tools and skills needed to understand the emerging role of business analytics and operations research in organizations. Emphasis would be given to problems in maritime logistics and transport, retailing and procurement. It allows students to understand and apply advanced business analytics tools in a computer-intensive environment and to communicate with analytics professionals to effectively use and interpret analytical models and results for better decision making. There is a descriptive, predictive and prescriptive approaches offered in the subject. Along with this, it discusses the fundamentals and advances of operations research as a discipline area related to simulations and decision-making processes using intelligent methods.

Business Analytics and Operations Research

Business Continuity Management is the holistic management process that identifies potential threats to an organisation and the likely impacts to business operations that may be caused if those threats materialise. This fully online subject provides you with a thorough understanding of the concepts and practical applications of Business Continuity Management. You will gain an appreciation of the issues and elements that underlie the practice of Business Continuity Management and draw upon theoretical concepts, real life case studies and relevant standards. This subject will provide you with the knowledge and skills to translate and communicate theoretical concepts in Business Continuity Management to tangible outputs for industry. This subject, together with protective security, crisis management, and the ability to lead resilient organisations, are collectively the underpinning foundation for enhancing organisational resilience. The subject provides you with an understanding and the requisite skills that will be interrelated with these subjects should you proceed further with your postgraduate studies in organisational resilience.

Business Continuity Management

This subject covers a range of legal topics relating to the business environment. It combines topics that are necessary for a consideration of business and corporate law including: an introduction to legal systems; contract law principles (including breaches and disputes);varied business structures, the law of agency, competition and consumer law; and basic corporate law and governance principles. The subject teaches students how to work through commercial disputes by identifying and addressing the relevant legal issues. These are essential skills for those wishing to work in both the fields of accounting and business management.

Business and Corporate Law in Practice

Managers need an understanding of statistics for five key reasons: to properly collect, present, describe and interpret information; to draw valid conclusions from incomplete data - typically about large populations based only on information obtained from samples; to obtain reliable forecasts; to improve business processes and; to provide a framework for dealing with risk and uncertainty. These five reasons form the basis of the structure and content of Data and Business Decision Making. The use of mathematics and arithmetical calculations are kept to a minimum for selected topics by using the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet package. The subject focuses on the interpretation and application of the various techniques studied.

Data and Business Decision Making

This subject equips students with an applied skill set and in-depth understanding of theoretical frameworks for implementing effective Corporate Finance The central issues in Corporate Finance are how to acquire and employ or invest funds efficiently. Concepts in Corporate Finance are explored as a set of ideas and principles that work together and their application to corporate financial policy decisions including dividend, capital structure and risk management.

This subject is available in a number of postgraduate degrees, HDR, or combined postgraduate degrees, offered by the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics (TSBE). You will undertake a work-based project with a public, private or not-for-profit business. Placements are matched and related to your course with a designated placement mentor from the organisation supporting student learning during the placement period. The subject is at level 700 and integrates work and learning.

Over a 10 day period students will visit a Canberra and Sydney and will visit a number of organisations including government agencies such as the ATO, Treasury, Tax Practitioners Board, as well as various professional organisations. The aim of the study tour is that students will immerse themselves in learning to understand and appreciate the roles of everyone involved in the smooth running of the Australian Taxation System.
