About this subject

  • Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

    1. critically listen to and interpret sound events including commonly encountered audio effects such as compression, equalisation, distortion and time-based effects;
    2. critically analyse the use of music production technologies in sound recordings;
    3. demonstrate practical skill and technical knowledge of music recording, editing, mixing and processing for creative music making;
    4. demonstrate practical skill of music recording, editing, mixing and processing for creative music making; and
    5. demonstrate practical skill and technical proficiency in the use of industry relevant digital audio workstation software.

Additional requirements

  • Equipment requirements - Headphones or speakers (required to listen to lectures and other media). Headset, including microphone (highly recommended). Webcam (may be required for participation in virtual classrooms and/or media presentations).
  • Software requirements - It is essential for students to have reliable internet access in order to participate in and complete your units, regardless of whether they contain an on campus attendance or intensive school component. The Unit Coordinator will advise students on suitable software choices, but students are responsible for the final selection and installation of software on their personal computers or mobile computing devices dependent on their personal circumstances. Specific software titles can not be confirmed at this time as new software is constantly being developed in this terrain. No software is required to be purchased or installed on university computers (except for the computers of teaching staff) as this unit will be run in an entirely online mode of delivery. If students are required to purchase any software for the unit, they will be advised of the requirements in the Course and Unit Catalogue prior to enrolment.
