About this subject
On successful completion of the subject, students should be able to:
- Critically appraise the latest techniques, technologies and research in wound prevention and healing
- Evaluate the contribution that an interdisciplinary approach makes in developing comprehensive patient centred wound care.
- Advocate for patient focused care that enhances healing and quality of life.
- Develop contemporary wound care management education for clients across diverse clinical settings
- Examine the role of digital health technology in improving patient-centred wound care delivery and outcomes.
- Wound cleansing methods – theory and practice
- Debridement methods, indications, and scope of practice
- Selecting the correct technique for cleansing a variety of wounds for different wound healing goals in a variety of healthcare settings
- Anatomy and physiology of the fistula wound, methods of managing fistula wounds and psychological impact on the patient
- Anatomy and physiology of scars and techniques for scar management
- The relationship between infection, inflammation and biofilms, recognition of symptoms and evidence-based management
This unit is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of advanced wound care management through critical examination and application of the latest techniques, technologies, and research. Emphasis is placed on developing skills that enhance patient-centred care and interdisciplinary collaboration in various clinical settings.
