About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- analyse, model and reflect on effective learning environment verbal and non-verbal communication strategies and how these might be improved to establish a plan for professional learning
- employ a range of frameworks to determine personal and professional learning needs to develop plans for professional growth
- distinguish key characteristics of effective teachers and explain their ethical, legislative, administrative and organisational responsibilities
- research and explain the current Secondary teaching context in relation to the cultural, political and social forces that shape education
- demonstrate an understanding of plagiarism, paraphrasing and the principles of Academic Integrity

Teaching in the Secondary School is an introductory subject that explores fundamental aspects of what it means to be an effective classroom teacher in secondary schools. The subject will examine aspects of teacher’s professional practice and ethics, including legislative, administrative and organisational responsibilities. The subject foregrounds research skills by developing a holistic understanding of teacher’s work addressing the cultural, political and social contexts of secondary education. The subject explicitly addresses academic integrity as pre-service teachers will focus on their own professional growth by developing written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Study load
