Secondary Professional Experience 2
About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- Meet ethical, legislative, administrative and organisational requirements in secondary school settings
- Reflect on professional experiences focused on AITSL standards 1, 2, 3 & 4 and plan professional learning needs for next placement opportunity
- Demonstrate teacher professional standards on school-based placement to align with the inherent requirements for secondary pre-service teachers.
- Module 1: Application of theory to teaching practice
- Module 2: Placement preparation
- Module 3: Critical reflection and debrief
This is the second in the suite of professional experience subjects that includes a practical component (a 15 day placement in a school). The subject will extend your application of relevant philosophies and theories related to teaching to deepen and extend the implementation of effective planning for diverse groups of learners. The subject will continue to address professional responsibilities, effective communication and reflective practices to support learning in school based context. The professional experience practical assessment is a 15 day work place learning opportunity intended to enable practical application of the knowledge and skills gained, along with providing students with insights into the complexity of the teacher’s role. All required clearances to work with children must be valid, and all other preparation requirements met prior to commencement of Professional Experience placement.

Additional requirements
- Placement requirements - This subject includes a 3-week professional experience placement in a school. Placements are undertaken on a full-time basis in a continuous block. All required clearances to work with children must be obtained and valid.
Study load
- 0.125 EFTSL
- This is in the range of 10 to 12 hours of study each week.
Equivalent full time study load (EFTSL) is one way to calculate your study load. One (1.0) EFTSL is equivalent to a full-time study load for one year.
