Secondary Professional Experience 1: Planning

About this subject

  • At the completion of this subject students will be able to:

    1. apply knowledge of the Graduate Teacher Standards to establish initial content for a digital professional portfolio; and identify and adopt a reflective practice model to guide ongoing preservice teacher development
    2. create lesson plans which reflect an understanding of how students learn through the effective use of challenging learning goals, a range of teaching strategies, and diverse resources including digital technologies in a first teaching area
    3. develop a plan for learning and teaching with consideration of theoretical studies, contextual factors, and to support a diversity of learners
    4. demonstrate and evaluate effective planning techniques and a range of learning and teaching resources and strategies, including ICT, to meet the diverse needs of students
    5. employ effective communication skills, maintain student safety and meet ethical, legislative, administrative and organisational requirements in secondary school settings

To enrol in this subject you must be accepted into one of the following degrees:

  • CUR-SEC-MAS-2024 - Master of Teaching (Secondary Education)
  • CUR-EDS-GDI-2024 - Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary Education)

Additional requirements

  • Placement requirements - This subject includes a 2-week professional experience placement in a school. Placements are undertaken on a full-time basis in a continuous block at the specified time. Please note that all relevant, valid working with children checks and clearances must be provided as requested prior to commencement of the placement.
  • Software requirements - Access to Microsoft Office or a unit approved alternative, access to video creation and editing software.

Study load

0.125 EFTSL
This is in the range of 10 to 12 hours of study each week.
