About this subject

  • At the completion of this subject students will be able to:

    1. examine the progression of developing evidence against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers in a prepared digital professional portfolio
    2. research and appraise literature and theory concerning effective assessment principles and practices
    3. evaluate learning environment, state, national and international assessment practices
    4. design a responsive assessment process which assesses, makes comparable judgements, provides feedback and reports on student learning 
    5. demonstrate professional practices, knowledge and skills that support effective learning and teaching, the creation and maintenance of positive learning environments that support the wellbeing and developing agency of diverse students

To enrol in this subject you must be accepted into one of the following degrees:

Core

  • CUR-PRI-MAS-2024 - Master of Teaching (Primary Education)
  • CUR-EDP-GDI-2024 - Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary Education)

Prior study

You must either have successfully completed the following subject(s) before starting this subject, or currently be enrolled in the following subject(s) in a prior study period; or enrol in the following subject(s) to study prior to this subject:

Please note that your enrolment in this subject is conditional on successful completion of these prerequisite subject(s). If you study the prerequisite subject(s) in the study period immediately prior to studying this subject, your result for the prerequisite subject(s) will not be finalised prior to the close of enrolment. In this situation, should you not complete your prerequisite subject(s) successfully you should not continue with your enrolment in this subject. If you are currently enrolled in the prerequisite subject(s) and believe you may not complete these all successfully, it is your responsibility to reschedule your study of this subject to give you time to re-attempt the prerequisite subject(s).

Additional requirements

  • Placement requirements - This subject includes a 3-week professional experience placement in a school. Placements are undertaken on a full-time basis in a continuous block at the specified time. Please note that all relevant, valid working with children checks and clearances must be provided as requested prior to commencement of the placement.
  • Software requirements - Access to Microsoft Office or a unit approved alternative, access to video creation and editing software. Includes Professional Experience placement.

Study load

This is in the range of 10 to 12 hours of study each week.
