About this degree
At the completion of this degree students will be able to:
- describe and apply the principles, concepts, tools, techniques and processes of project management, and extend the boundaries of knowledge through research
- think critically and reflectively to analyse project management problems and issues and generate practical effective solutions to facilitate project success
- source, critically evaluate and synthesise information to support comprehension and decision making in a project environment
- communicate effectively graphically, orally, and in writing, with academic, professional and community stakeholders
- use appropriate technologies for the facilitation of project management processes
- use a range of strategies that will enable continued learning
- recognise the value-of an international perspective on project management processes
- appreciate the cultural diversity of the wider community and its impacts on project management
- conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner; demonstrate skills in leadership, self-motivation and working in teams.
Project Management is a distinct professional discipline, having its own body of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques. It involves managing a project from inception to completion and the successful attainment of the project objectives. This degree provides the opportunity to gain the understanding, knowledge and skills necessary for performing the role of project manager. It adopts a generic approach to project management and is applicable to any project in industries such as construction, engineering, education, health, commerce, information technology and research and development. Students have the option to select either the Research Stream or the Professional Stream for their final semester.

The Master of Science (Project Management), has two streams:
- The Professional stream requiressuccessful completion of 11 subjects (including a double credit subject and an elective).
- The Research stream requiressuccessful completion of 11 subjects (including a double credit subject).
Generally the degree is fully planned in sequential progression.

Award requirements
To qualify for the award of Master of Science (Project Management), students must complete 300 credit points:
- Professional stream successful completion of 11 subjects (including a double credit subject and an elective).
- Research stream successful completion of 11 subjects (including a double credit subject).
Students must complete the award within 7 years.

2022 Changes
This degree has undergone a major degree review. As a result of this review subjects have been added and removed from the degree. Details are:
- Added two new core subjects - DBE600 Design and Built Environment Research Methods and PRM630 Agile Management
- Removed two core subjects - PRM570 Project Quality Management and PRM610 Project Management Research 1
- Removed the list of recommended 'Elective' subject from the Professional major stream. Students can pick any elective subject of their choice.
PRM570 Project Quality Management will run an additional 1.5 years past the course change to allow students to complete as part of the teach out plan and then will be replaced by PRM630 Agile Management.
PRM610 Project Management Research 1 can be directly replaced by DBE600 Research Methods.

Entry requirements
This is a restricted degree. Subject enrolment is only available to students admitted into this degree.
Specifically, applicants require a bachelor degree; or Graduate Certificate in Project Management or Graduate Diploma in Project Management or Bachelor Degree. Students entering with a Graduate Diploma in Project Management must have completed DBE600 Design and Built Environment Research Methods in order to be eligible for the Research Stream. Students entering with the Graduate Diploma in Project Management who have completed PRM630 Agile Management are eligible for the Professional Stream.
Applicants need to meet Curtin’s English Language requirement as all degrees are taught in English.
If your education degrees were not solely in English, as per the International Handbook of Universities or the World Higher Education database please attach a scanned original copy of English Proficiency Test results. Admission requires an overall International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) (or equivalent test) score of at least 6.5 and competence in all test components (IELTS score of 6.0).

Credit for Recognised Learning (CRL) is assessed on individual merit and is awarded for different types of learning, for example, studies you have previously completed or for relevant work experience.
Students must be admitted in an award degree of study before lodging their completed CRL application, along with all required supporting documentation for a formal assessment.

Degree FAQs
How long does it take to finish an online degree?
That's up to you! Because we let you choose when to study online, you can actually pick up and pause study when it suits you. Many universities have a set time you need to complete your degree within. For some this is up to 10 years, and for others there is no limit.
There are some degrees that are stricter about when you can take breaks, and about how many years you can take to complete your degree. Please always check with your uni what the limits are.
As a general guide, Commonwealth supported place students have 10 years to finish their undergraduate degree through OUA, However, if you're studying with Griffith University, there's a limit of 8 years to complete your studies. If you want to take a break that lasts more than two study terms, you'll need to apply for a leave of absence. You can apply for a leave of absence for up to 12 months, as long as you complete your studies within the maximum time allowed for your degree.
If you're studying with Macquarie University, with the exception of certain degrees, there's no limit to how long you can take. But, please check with Macquarie Student Administration to be sure.
If you're studying with the University of Adelaide, you have up to 9 years to complete your undergraduate degree and graduate.
If you're studying with La Trobe University and want to take a break of minimum 1 study term, you must apply for leave of absence to avoid being inadvertently withdrawn from your degree.
Through OUA, you can study all year round, so it's possible to fast-track and finish up sooner than studying at a traditional uni would allow. That said, you need to spend around 12 hours a week on each undergraduate subject you do, so taking on extra work to finish ahead of time can be challenging.
How can I pay for my studies?
You may be eligible for a HELP loan from the Australian government, depending on your citizenship status and where you'll be living during your studies. You can also pay upfront with your credit card.
