About this degree
On completion of the program, graduates should be able to:
- Select and critically apply an evidence-based approach to public health practice and research.
- Critically evaluate the scope of contemporary public health practice within an interdisciplinary context and apply critical reflection in practice.
- Function effectively as a team member including behaving in an ethical and culturally safe manner when interacting with clients, other professionals, and the broader community.
- Communicate ways of working respectfully and collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities in public health practice, and culturally and linguistically diverse peoples and communities.
- Strategically utilise specialized skills and advanced theoretical knowledge to analyze, evaluate, and communicate complex health information.
- Apply specialized skills and theoretical knowledge to detect, prevent, and control communicable and non-communicable diseases among human populations.
- Critically appraise, synthesize, and apply relevant health promotion and health protection concepts and knowledge to promote population health through mediating, advocating, and enabling changes in behavioral, social, economic, cultural, and physical environments.
- Promote efficient and equitable gains in population health by developing appropriate policy, legislation, regulation, governance, and/or fiscal measures.
- Prepare for the emerging healthcare challenges of the 21st century and study a Master of Public Health. Make an impact in local and global communities to address social, cultural, economic, and environmental health issues. Develop your analytical, research, and communication skills and undertake public health practice in the community. The industry placements provide a rich learning experience that will see you ideally positioned to grasp employment opportunities with your own emerging networks of colleagues. Explore epidemiology, social and behavioural determinants of health, health systems, environmental and physical determinants of health, as well as health promotion.

Entry requirements
- Completed a 3-year or 4-year bachelor degree, or equivalent, in the area of health with a 4.8 GPA or higher; or completed a 3-year or 4-year bachelor degree, or equivalent, in a different discipline with a 4.8 GPA or higher, and completed 1 year of full-time work experience in a healthcare setting; or completed UniSQ's Graduate Certificate of Public Health or Graduate Diploma of Public Health with a 4.8 GPA or higher. Proof of meeting the English Language Proficiency requirements is also required.
- Exemptions/credit will be assessed based on the UniSQ Credit and Exemption Procedure. Claims for credit for previous study should be submitted prior to or at the time of enrolment. Each claim will be assessed on individual merit in line with UniSQ policy.
