Master of Australian Migration Law and Practice

Students who successfully complete this program will be equipped with the knowledge to:

1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the legislative and policy framework of Australian Migration Law needed to practice as a Migration Agent.
2. Clearly communicate an advanced understanding of Migration Law by interpreting and critically analysing research to prepare migration advice for diverse clients.
3. Critically analyse the professional and ethical considerations that Migration Agents face with reference to the Code of Conduct for Migration Agents and demonstrate skills in self-management, ethical and professional problem-solving and decision-making and appropriate use of 21st Century literacies.
4. Apply Migration Law research to creatively solve real world complex Migration Law problems, while balancing the interests of clients and the broader social community within the context of the Common Good.
5. Communicate a critical awareness of the specific and complex migration law and practice issues facing individuals and groups in Australian society.
6. Work collaboratively and autonomously to promote the dignity of the individual and the common good by bringing migration law and practice rights principles to bear on professional judgements.

The Masters of Australian Migration Law and Practice (MAMLAP) will enhance your skills with the foundation knowledge, understanding and practical skills that are required to practice as a qualified Australian migration agent. The Masters is for individuals seeking to accelerate their career through deepened subject knowledge and improved personal and professional skills. After completing the Graduate Diploma in Australian Migration Law and Practice you can then choose from a series of electives to deepen your knowledge and enhance your career ambitions.

Upon successful completion of the MAMLAP and the Capstone exam administered by the Office of Migration Agents Registration Authority (OMARA), graduates may seek registration to practice as a Registered Migration Agent.

Recommended study pattern

Students are required to follow the pattern of unit enrolment set out in the relevant course enrolment guide, unless otherwise approved by the course coordinator. In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the course coordinator.

Award requirements

To qualify for the Masters, a student must complete 120 CP from the specified units.

Exit points

A student who has completed the requirements prescribed for the Graduate Diploma in Australian Migration Law and Practice may exit from the course with the relevant award.

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:

• Bachelor degree in any discipline; or
• Graduate Diploma in Australian Migration Law and Practice.

An applicant who has completed a OMARA accredited Graduate Diploma in Migration Law and Practice (or equivalent) will be granted advanced standing for 80 credit points.

International applicants need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admissions Rules.

Recognition of prior learning is recognised but must be applied for using the prescribed forms. Students currently enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Migration Law will be able to transfer into the Master of Australian Migration Law and Practice and receive recognition of prior learning for subjects completed as part of the graduate diploma.
