About this degree
Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Sports Analytics, students should be able to:
- LO1. Demonstrate advanced cognitive, technical and communication skills that promotes the ethical use of data and analytics to ensure safety and dignity of the person;
- LO2. Critically evaluate sport analytics processes and outline the implications for data collection, storage retrieval and use;
- LO3. Apply advanced knowledge and skills to use specialised technologies and techniques to collect, analyse, interpret, describe and explain meaningful data required to support decision making at any level within the sport.
The Graduate Certificate in Sports Analytics is designed to ensure you develop an evidence-based foundation in sports analytics, and a sound understanding of the relevant concepts and application of data science and technologies to suit the sports industry. The degree is delivered online, with a curriculum that will provide knowledge and skills immediately applicable to your employment situations. The degree embeds research-led teaching at the core of its curriculum to deliver evidence-based knowledge and practice for immediate application in industry.
Recommended study pattern
Students are required to follow the pattern of unit enrolment set out in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide, unless otherwise approved by the Course Coordinator. In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator.
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 40 cp of Specified Units.

Entry requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Sports Analytics course, an applicant must:
- Hold a Bachelor degree or higher in Exercise Science, Sports Science, Human Movement or a related discipline; OR
- Have completed a Bachelor degree (or higher) in a different discipline AND have evidence of relevant industry experience.
NOTE: Applicants having completed a Bachelor degree (or higher) in a related allied health discipline will be considered, dependent on specific qualifications and evidence of industry experience.
Students may apply by submitting a supporting professional referee's report regarding suitability for this postgraduate program and/or experience in the industry.
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy .
International students need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy .
Students must meet English Language requirements as follows:
- Academic IELTS with an overall score of 6.5: with minimum scores of 6.0 in all tests.
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) - 58: with a minimum of 50 in all four communicative skills
- Test of English as a Foreign Language - Academic TOEFL Internet based total of 79: with a minimum 21 in writing, 18 in speaking, 13 in reading and 12 in listening
- ACU English Language Test - B (65-74%)
- Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) - Overall CAE of 176: with a minimum individual score of 169 in all tests.
If you have already studied at university level or have significant relevant work experience, you can apply for credit towoards your ACU course. Credited units replace units you would otherwise study, so you can finish your course earlier.
ACU will consider requests for advanced standing based on prior studies to a maximum equivalence of 20cp.
