About this degree
Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:
- demonstrate commitment to professional behaviour and accountability in the care of people;
- retrieve, critically evaluate and apply evidence, in professional practice;
- demonstrate team and leadership skills to deliver safe and effective practice;
- demonstrate an ability to take account of the patient perspective, to make, act on and take social responsibility for clinically, ethically and scientifically sound decisions;
- demonstrate communication skills in lay and professional language, choosing strategies appropriate for the context and diverse audiences;
- plan and implement ongoing personal and professional development by reflecting on current skills, knowledge, attitudes and practice;
- apply pharmaceutical, business and health, knowledge and skills; (i) within their scope of practice, in the assessment of individual health status and medication needs. Where necessary, develop, implement and monitor management plans in consultation with people to improve patient outcomes; (ii) to promote and optimise the health and welfare of communities and/or populations;
- demonstrate the ability to formulate, prepare and also supply medications and therapeutic products;
- articulate an understanding of the place of research in furthering the theory and practice of pharmacy; and

The Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours aims to produce graduates with the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary to commence supervised practice in a preregistration training program and to achieve the recognised competency standards for practice of pharmacy in Australia and New Zealand. Graduates will also have an understanding of the place of research in furthering the theory and practice of pharmacy.

In fact, we were the first university to offer the Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours by distance education. If you are studying online, our mandatory on campus intensive schools in Armidale allow you to take advantage of our modern teaching and research facilities. Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours.
Exit points
Subject to satisfying the Advanced Standing rule, candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Diploma in Science after completion of 48 credit points or with the Advanced Diploma in Science after completion of 72 credit points.

Transfer from another UNE course
If you are currently studying another undergraduate qualification at UNE, you can apply to transfer into this course. To be assessed for admission you must have completed:
- At least 4 units of study within a single course, including CHEM110 Chemistry I and MTHS110 Quantitative Skills with Applications, with a minimum GPA of 4.6
- OR 5 or more units of study within a single course, including CHEM110 Chemistry I and MTHS110 Quantitative Skills with Applications with a minimum GPA of 4.3.
You can apply for this course if you are currently studying Year 12 (school or TAFE) or have done so within the past 2 years.

Professional Experience
If you have completed at least one year of paid professional experience, we can assess you for admission on this basis. Simply provide a resume and a Statement of Service from your employer/s in your application.
Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
The STAT is a test that assesses a range of competencies considered important for successful tertiary study. UNE accepts the multiple-choice component provided you have completed it within the three years prior to course commencement.
If you are admitted into this course and believe you have already completed the equivalent of one or more of the units in your Program of Study within the last ten years, you can apply for Individual Unit Advanced Standing.
Study method requirements
During their degree students are required to undertake 7 weeks (approx. 270 hours) of clinical placements in community and hospital pharmacies. In second year students complete 70 hours either full or part time in a community pharmacy, in fourth year students complete 2 weeks full time in both community and hospital pharmacy (4 weeks total) and 1 week full time in a rural community pharmacy.
Mandatory intensive schools on campus may be a requirement of some of the units in this course.
