The Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management provides graduates with high-level expertise and knowledge to understand the maritime business in the global arena, the world-wide spanning logistics services and strategies, as well as the structuring, operation and coordination of supply chains. The maritime and logistics industries underpin international business and world trade, a key element in sustainable development. These industries are tightly interconnected with human society; physically, socially and economically. As such their management is critical, requiring highly trained individuals and teams to lead the development, implementation and control of sound contemporary management practices.
The Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management is a nested programme that includes entry and exit award for the Diploma of Global Logistics and Maritime Management and the Associate Degree (Global Logistics and Maritime Management). It gives students the flexibility and choice to match employment prospects and career progression with personal goals and circumstances. The program is designed to introduce a diverse range of students (school leavers, nationally, linguistically, and experientially) to the key topics required to understand, and operate effectively in, the maritime and logistics industries. This requires a mix of field specific topics and business topics tailored to the context of the maritime and logistics industries. This mix is unusual in the higher education market and attracts students from across the world to this program to both attend the on-campus delivery and to the distance offering. The application of problem solving and communications skills within a diverse student cohort also offers a significant opportunity for the student to develop a set of marketable work skills alongside topic specific knowledge. While exposing students to the key components of the maritime industry, the program offers three majors i.e. Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Maritime Technology Management and Maritime Business Management for students to choose.
With a focus on an applied approach to these critical areas, centred on strategic and analytical thinking and decision-making skills, the curriculum for this program provides a unique educational experience with high level of relevance to specific global shipping and logistics industries. This Bachelor program is tailored to meet industry needs, thereby providing graduates with real advantage in the job market. The program aims to produce graduates able to contribute substantially to strategic decision making to maintain, enhance and drive these industries now and into the future.

Majors
Logistics and Supply Chain Management
The Logistics and Supply Chain Management major aims to provide students with a holistic perspective of the interdependencies in logistics and international trade. It provides students with background knowledge of critical elements of the international logistics and supply chain management enabling problem-solving skills to be applied to key industry issues.
The major will furnish prospective early-career administrators and managers with a solid foundation in international logistics and freight management. The major provides the necessary grounding in international logistics so that the theoretical and practical elements of the freight management and transport industries are appropriately applied to enable effective decision-making within a complex supply chain system. By developing critical analytical skills within the industry context, students will be able to contribute to industry growth and sustainability.
We offer our students a wide range of strong links to diverse industry sectors where logistics and supply chain activities are involved, such as retailing, manufacturing, agriculture, aquaculture, forestry, mining, and tourism, shipping, ports, transport and logistics, and industry associations in Tasmania and interstate. Besides, we have been conducting logistics and supply chain research projects related to aquaculture, offshore energy and agriculture, funded by the Blue Economy CRC, the Australian Research Council, and the Department of Agriculture Water and Environment. Our strong engagement with industries and research outcomes enhance the quality of curriculum and enrich students’ learning experience.
Maritime Business Management
The Maritime Business Management major aims to provide students with core business principles with learning that is specific to maritime management. It also covers the knowledge and practices of relevant maritime businesses. With a focus on delivering practical learning experiences, centred on strategic and analytical thinking and decision-making skills, this major will equip students with a specialist business skillset and an in-depth appreciation of the issues confronting the maritime industries.

Entry requirements
- Partially completed an undergraduate program at Diploma level or higher (or equivalent). Applicants must have completed at least two/four subjects of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points) including Level 100 subjects successfully completed in the Diploma of University Studies at UTAS. If an applicant has failed any subjects the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made.
OR
- Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program (or an equivalent qualification offered by an Australian University).
Successful completion of any two (2) OUA open access subjects of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points) at the equivalent AQF level, unless otherwise specified
This course uses ATAR and equivalent ranks as part of the admission process. In 2024, the minimum ATAR required is 65.
Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your individual subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.
Completed a Certificate IV (or equivalent) in any discipline
Applicants without senior secondary, tertiary or VET / TAFE study can complete a personal competency statement.
Applicants may be eligible for an offer if they have relevant work and / or life experiences which demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course.

Graduates of the course are eligible for credit exemption when pursuing the professional qualification from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS).
Graduates may be eligible to receive a professional certification awarded by the International Association of Maritime and Port Executives (IAMPE) USA.
The course is certified by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia (CILTA).
Degree FAQs
How long does it take to finish an online degree?
That's up to you! Because we let you choose when to study online, you can actually pick up and pause study when it suits you. Many universities have a set time you need to complete your degree within. For some this is up to 10 years, and for others there is no limit.
There are some degrees that are stricter about when you can take breaks, and about how many years you can take to complete your degree. Please always check with your uni what the limits are.
As a general guide, Commonwealth supported place students have 10 years to finish their undergraduate degree through OUA, However, if you're studying with Griffith University, there's a limit of 8 years to complete your studies. If you want to take a break that lasts more than two study terms, you'll need to apply for a leave of absence. You can apply for a leave of absence for up to 12 months, as long as you complete your studies within the maximum time allowed for your degree.
If you're studying with Macquarie University, with the exception of certain degrees, there's no limit to how long you can take. But, please check with Macquarie Student Administration to be sure.
If you're studying with the University of Adelaide, you have up to 9 years to complete your undergraduate degree and graduate.
If you're studying with La Trobe University and want to take a break of minimum 1 study term, you must apply for leave of absence to avoid being inadvertently withdrawn from your degree.
Through OUA, you can study all year round, so it's possible to fast-track and finish up sooner than studying at a traditional uni would allow. That said, you need to spend around 12 hours a week on each undergraduate subject you do, so taking on extra work to finish ahead of time can be challenging.
How can I pay for my studies?
You may be eligible for a HELP loan from the Australian government, depending on your citizenship status and where you'll be living during your studies. You can also pay upfront with your credit card.
