The Bachelor of Education (Primary) has been designed for people seeking to attain an Initial Teacher Education qualification in order to register as a teacher in Australia and any other countries that recognise an Australian teaching qualification. Specifically, this degree provides a qualification for those intending to teach children at the primary level of education.Students will develop advanced critical skills, knowledge and understanding concerning best practice in education and in meeting the needs of children. Undergraduate Certificate in Secondary Teaching Education Studies

The Bachelor of Special and Inclusive Education (Primary) is an initial-teacher education program; it aims to prepare Primary teachers who can teach from Kindergarten to Year 6 in inclusive settings and special classes. It is a generalist primary program emphasising special and inclusive education. The course has been designed to meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. The course uses the lecturer content with the voices of lived experience to allow you to gain a foundation in communication and learning in autism, understand how to select and apply evidence-based practices and explore different factors and pathways to understanding and supporting behavioural challenges. This subject explores the relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous, histories perspectives and cultures. It encourages you to develop an ethical position grounded in critical reflection which will enable you to identify and challenge racial and social injustices in education and more broadly through practice and pedagogy.The subject has four foci which are integrated: history, culture, curriculum, and pedagogy. It considers these foci as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, non-Indigenous peoples, educators, administrators, and policy makers. In doing so, it provides you with both a theoretical and practical grounding from which to develop your skills as a transformative educator capable of fostering restorative justice and reconciliation both within and through education.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culturally Inclusive Curriculum and Pedagogy

The purpose of this subject is to develop an appreciation of the characteristic features and educational issues associated with dyslexia and other related learning difficulties. You will be introduced to a range of theoretical models to explain dyslexia, alongside contemporary models of language, literacy, and numeracy learning. You will also explore and evaluate a range of assessment and intervention approaches in relation to these models, in order to promote an inclusive and effective educational experience for students with dyslexia and other related learning difficulties.

Educating Students with Dyslexia and Learning Difficulties

This subject is designed for educators with an interest in special and/or inclusive education. The Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (MYCEETYA, 2008) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005) make it clear that students with disability should expect that Australian schooling will enable them to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens. In this context, you will be required to independently research and analyse the theoretical and practical issues associated with educating students with multiple disabilities and complex health conditions. Building on your work in TAS-EMT603 Inclusive Practices in Education Settings, you will develop an advanced and integrated understanding of learning and teaching approaches to support this diverse population of students, recognising the need to tailor programs to individual students strengths and learning needs through collaborative, multi-disciplinary approaches.

Educating Students with Multiple Disabilities

In this subject, preservice teachers will investigate the social, emotional and educational needs of children. The neuroscience associated with developmental trauma and impact on learning will be examined. Social justice-based principles of inclusion will be promoted to allow educators to actively include children according to diverse backgrounds, genders and abilities. A holistic perspective informed by sound theoretical and applied models will form the foundation of the investigation and choice of appropriate strategies. Proactive and reactive strategies will be examined within an inclusive education framework. Educator resilience and relational skills required to enable successful inclusion will be examined.
