Do you work with or wish to work with students with special needs within primary, secondary and special schools? This program offers an evidence-based approach to equip you with the essential specialist knowledge and skills to engage with school staff and parents to better support the learning and behaviour of students with special needs.Although this program does not qualify you as a teacher, it will be attractive to those already working with, or who wish to work with, students with special needs within a school setting. An evidence-based approach will equip you with essential specialist knowledge and skills to engage with school staff and parents in order to better support the learning and behavior of a diverse range of students with special needs.

Graduate Certificate in Special Education

The Bachelor of Special and Inclusive Education (Primary) is an initial-teacher education program; it aims to prepare Primary teachers who can teach from Kindergarten to Year 6 in inclusive settings and special classes. It is a generalist primary program emphasising special and inclusive education. The course has been designed to meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Students graduate with a National Primary Specialisation as mandated by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), in English/Literacy in the inclusive classroom.The course is structured to provide in the first year, eight discipline units across the Primary Key Learning Areas, to ensure a spread of content background; successful completion of this first year also gives all students, irrespective of their educational backgrounds, the opportunity to demonstrate they meet the Government&#39;s <a href="https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/teacher-accreditation/how-accreditation-works/your-accreditation/future-teachers/increased-academic-standards" target="_blank">academic standards for studying teaching</a>.

Bachelor of Special and Inclusive Education (Primary)

This degree, offered by the Autism Centre of Excellence, applies a multi-disciplinary, whole-of-life focus to autism. Our approach aligns with the neurodiversity paradigm, and we incorporate the voices of autistic and autism community in each of our courses. The course uses the lecturer content with the voices of lived experience to allow you to gain a foundation in communication and learning in autism, understand how to select and apply evidence-based practices and explore different factors and pathways to understanding and supporting behavioural challenges. This Graduate Certificate in Autism Studies is a prerequisite for the Master of Autism Studies, which is an accredited pathway to becoming a developmental educator. Developmental educators are NDIS-approved professionals who support individuals on the autism spectrum, those with other disabilities, and their families to achieve their individual developmental, social and learning goals.The introduction and overview of autism provided in this graduate certificate covers understanding and supporting behaviours, evidence for interventions, and the changes that have occurred in understanding of ASD over time, creating positive learning environments. You&#39;ll understand the importance of each individual&#39;s profile of autism characteristics, be able to evaluate how and when these impact on learning or behaviour and be able to understand and explain relationships between family and cultural experiences with autism and critique current models of disability.The evidence that underpins our knowledge of autism, and the various proactive and reactive strategies that are prevalent and emerging in supporting individuals on the autism spectrum, is an essential part of this certificate. You will critically evaluate the research support for intervention practices that address the strengths and needs of individuals with autism and how to apply them in practice while working collaboratively with people with autism and those who work or live with them.

Master of Education (Inclusive Education) Advanced

This degree, offered by the Autism Centre of Excellence, has a multidisciplinary, whole of life focus. In the Masters, you will build on this knowledge and learn about critical issues in autism such as diagnosis, early intervention, mental health, communication and the importance of identifying strengths and challenges. You will gain comprehensive understanding and skills in research and practice for autistic individuals, that will enable you to work effectively with autistic learners and their families at home, in school, at work and in the community.The Master of Autism Studies is a pathway to becoming a Developmental Educator. Developmental Educators are National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) approved professionals who support individuals on the autism spectrum, those with other disabilities, and their families to achieve their individual developmental, social and learning goals.This degree also addresses an area of acute need as determined by the Australian Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Australian Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, Queensland Department of Education and Training, and the Queensland Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.

Master of Autism Studies

Education Support is essential to educational access and equity, particularly for children and adults who may have distinct learning difficulties, lack confidence or motivation in learning, or who might otherwise be disengaged or marginalised from conventional educational systems or practices.The Undergraduate Certificate in Education Support provides a foundational understanding of educational practices for Teacher Aides, School Support Officers, and Home Schooling parents. You&#39;ll develop problem-solving, communication and critical thinking skills relevant to many education careers, especially in a classroom setting as Integration Aides, Teacher Aides, and School Support Officers. Undergraduate Certificate in Education Support

The Graduate Certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis comprises two trimesters of part-time study. Students complete four courses via a combination of learning activities that focus on real world application of knowledge and skills. At the end of the program, students will have developed a deep understanding of the key concepts, principles, and theoretical underpinnings of Applied Behaviour Analysis and have applied them to case scenarios involving assessment, intervention, and adherence to ethical and professional practice issues to support learning and achieve positive and meaningful changes in behaviour.The program caters for students who want to apply the knowledge and skills to their everyday lives including teachers, allied health professionals, managers, principals, and parents/caregivers. The Associate Degree in Education Support is a two-year program intended to provide an educational qualification for a range of education support roles including Teacher Aides, Integration Aides, School Support Officers and Home-Schooling parents.This program values the critical role that Education Support workers play in enabling learners to overcome their barriers to learning success. This subject is designed for educators with an interest in special and/or inclusive education. The Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (MYCEETYA, 2008) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005) make it clear that students with disability should expect that Australian schooling will enable them to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens. In this context, you will be required to independently research and analyse the theoretical and practical issues associated with educating students with multiple disabilities and complex health conditions. Building on your work in TAS-EMT603 Inclusive Practices in Education Settings, you will develop an advanced and integrated understanding of learning and teaching approaches to support this diverse population of students, recognising the need to tailor programs to individual students strengths and learning needs through collaborative, multi-disciplinary approaches.

Educating Students with Multiple Disabilities

In this subject, preservice teachers will investigate the social, emotional and educational needs of children. The neuroscience associated with developmental trauma and impact on learning will be examined. Social justice-based principles of inclusion will be promoted to allow educators to actively include children according to diverse backgrounds, genders and abilities. A holistic perspective informed by sound theoretical and applied models will form the foundation of the investigation and choice of appropriate strategies. Proactive and reactive strategies will be examined within an inclusive education framework. Educator resilience and relational skills required to enable successful inclusion will be examined.
