Master of Public Policy and Leadership

The Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Administration aims to provide students with advanced understanding of the key theoretical concepts, major historical themes and significant current issues in public policy and administration. This course requires 1 year of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time) and is offered by the College of Business, Government and Law.

Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Administration

With its dual focus on policy analysis and applied social research, the Master of Public and Social policy (OUA) is a unique and innovative course in Australia. Through your studies, you will develop a deep knowledge of how policy is shaped, as well as the skills to help you analyse, design and deliver effective policy solutions to serve the public interest. You will also acquire the knowledge and skills to engage with and undertake research addressing global challenges facing contemporary societies, including sustainable communities, welfare reform, immigration, population health, drugs and alcohol.

Master of Public and Social Policy

Whether you already work in government at local, state or national level, or you work with government and want to understand what drives and influences decision-making, this degree will equip you with a sophisticated understanding of how 21st Century policy-making and governance works.Upon successful completion of the graduate certificate you will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing towards the Master of Public Administration (5580).

Graduate Certificate in Policy Analysis

The Master of Regulation and Governance (MREGG) is a unique degree that equips students and their organisations to navigate environments where complexity, catastrophic risk, and transformative technologies are reshaping the ways in which we govern and regulate. Graduates from this program will be working in - or will join - government or private sector organisations charged with designing and applying regulatory policy solutions to pressing social problems, often in partnership with diverse stakeholders. Core courses provide students with a solid foundation in the concepts, processes, institutions and practice of regulation and governance. Elective courses provide case-studies, simulations and clinics in which to examine domains such as climate, crime, environment, health, Indigenous Australia, justice, safety, technology and urban design. All the courses are interactive and ask how regulation and governance is created and by whom - and for what purpose, with an emphasis on how to better anticipate catastrophe, manage risk and provide equitable social outcomes. It draws on the evidence-based research and the ‘big ideas’ in regulation and governance for which the ANU&#39;s RegNet academics are world famous. MREGG students join an education program at the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) that emphasizes interdisciplinary skills-building, our place in Asia and the Pacific, a stimulating curriculum, master classes with distinguished practitioners, global networks and multiple career pathways.

Master of Regulation and Governance

This program is designed to help individual professionals and their organisations understand and apply contemporary Australian and international approaches to effective regulation and governance. Thematic issues covered include regulatory complexity, risk assessment, responsiveness, compliance, technology and regulation, and managing stakeholders. It is designed for people who manage regulatory portfolios and projects in government, business or NGO settings -- or who will do so in future. It supports professionals who work with regulatory stakeholders, including business and industry, Territory, State and Federal government agencies, the legislature, community actors and the media. Adopting an applied approach, the program uses case studies, hands-on assessments and examples of regulatory excellence from Australia, Europe, North America and Asia and the Pacific. This degree comprises 24 units which can be completed part-time over a year.

This subject was previously known as GEOX802 Social Impact Assessment and Cross-Cultural Negotiation.Social impact assessment (SIA) is an important assessment tool which applies social science methodologies to the evaluation of a wide range of public policy proposals, including those relating to land use planning, social policies and public health. This unit addresses the theory and methods of SIA, discusses the public policy processes which use this assessment, and applies a critical perspective to the ethical dilemmas facing the SIA practitioner. There is a practical focus to the course work through the use of current case studies, and this provides students with an insight into pressures and political difficulties frequently encountered. Students will learn how to recognise and respond to these problems, and present issues to non-specialist audiences.
