This subject introduces fundamental games art and design production concepts and processes, providing students with basic knowledge in concept art, game engine evaluation, game play, storyboarding,and basic workflow standards. Students are also introduced to games as a wider cultural and philosophical phenomena.

Go behind the scenes of game development. Cover the skills needed to work in the field, the culture of the industry, and theory behind it. Hone skills to craft game art and apply them to your own game project – considering principles of design.

Introduction to Games Art and Design

This subject introduces the fundamentals of computer graphics, animation, audio and video; essential for digital content development for computer and video games, and eXtended Reality [XR] (Virtual [VR], Augmented [AR], Mixed [MR]) applications. Tools and techniques used for creation of visual and audio information are introduced. Become a magician of the moving image as you learn to create, manipulate and transform visual and audio. Understand bitmap and vector graphics, 2D and 3D geometry, manipulation of 3D graphics, processing computer graphics, shading and more.

Introduction to 3D Graphics and Animation

User Interface Design

This subject focuses on the theories, techniques and tools for designing, constructing and producing interactive 3D visualisation systems including computer games, interactive modelling software, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality software. Besides focusing on the theories, techniques and tools, the unit will cover additional topics such as budgeting, design documentation, evaluation, group dynamics, project management, team roles and responsibilities. Virtual Realities and Games Software Production

This unit aims to give students a general background of virtual realities (augmented, mixed and virtual) and game software design to create something fun and entertaining. It addresses elements and issues of design concepts, creation and plays in computer, video and VR games. Topics include character design, creative play, core mechanics, design documentation, design process environment, game-balancing, player motivation, user interfaces, and virtual realities. Virtual Realities and Games Software Design

This subject was previously known as Games Design and Prototyping.Students combine their prototyping skills and game design knowledge to develop and test original games for a wide variety of real-world settings targeting several different platforms. The prototypes developed could engage several genres, from serious and educational to casual and hardcore games.Murdoch University students should also note that Games Design Studio (MCC375) is considered academically equivalent and therefore you should not enrol in this subject if you have successfully completed MCC375.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Games Design Studio

This subject will critically explore game design and playful digital content production in contemporary culture. Areas of focus will include: games (console, computer, mobile, casual and multiplayer), user-created content and playful media produsage (e.g. Indie game development, modding, web and app development). These practices will be examined from a number of perspectives, including game studies, critical design and new media theory. Students will learn key concepts emerging from these fields, and how to apply them.Murdoch University students should also note that MCC232 Video Game Studies is considered academically equivalent and therefore you should not enrol in this subject if you have successfully completed MCC232.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online.
