Data Driven Web Technologies

The environment and environmental crises have had a profound impact on the history of the Australian people and their politics. This subject traces the relationship between people and the environment in Australia from pre-European times to the present-day climate-change crisis. We consider the ways in which Australians have sought to manage, tame and develop the natural environment. We measure the costs of hubris, the lack of ecological humility, and failures in recognising nature’s limits. The subject also considers Australia’s response to environmental issues in its region, where it has oscillated between being a trusted regional partner and crisis responder, to an ecological delinquent. Environmental Crisis in Australia and its Region

Students will be introduced to the rapidly expanding and influential field of information technology which comprises various types of technologies in computers (both hardware and software) and computer networks. It is therefore relevant to students in a wide range of disciplines: for examples, health sciences, business, engineering and technology. Students will be taught the fundamental principles of computer operations, different types of input/output and storage devices, computer networks including Local and Wide area networks, information systems, Database, the Internet, the World Wide Web and HTML. Inside Information Technology

This subject provides both a theoretical and practical overview of project management as it relates to technology-oriented projects. Specifically, this subject will introduce project management principles, techniques and tools that can be used to guide traditional business-oriented ICT projects, as well as those adaptations that are designed to support development of more creative ICT projects. Scientific Computing

63 million people in the world speak Italian as their first language. Millions of others know and use this musical, expressive language to communicate for business and pleasure purposes. This subject is for students with little or no knowledge of Italian. When you study this subject you will learn the basic grammatical structures such as nouns, adjectives, articles, and present and perfect tenses of verbs, and practice speaking modern Italian as it is used in colloquial interaction. You will also be introduced to Italian culture through texts dealing with various aspects of Italian history, arts and lifestyle.

Get ready to speak Italian at a basic level. You’ll build a vocabulary of common words and get to know elementary grammar. Write short and simple sentences. Enjoy light conversations. Touch on Italian culture, history, and lifestyle.

Italian Language 1A

More than seventy years after the end of the Second World War, fascism and Nazism continue to fascinate. In this course, we will explore Italian fascism and German Nazism as broadly understood in Europe and globally to better understand the appeal of their conservative, reactionary, and militaristic ideology. We will read the key literature on definitions of fascism in order to understand the concept as more than a pejorative. Through a close examination of the governments of Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany we will investigate how fascist regimes controlled everyday life, mobilised political support, shaped men and women&#39;s bodies, built cults of personality around their leaders, silenced the press, defeated leftist student organisations and unions, and organised repressive systems of militaristic expansion. We will also concentrate on the way that people learned to resist, survive, and even thrive under fascism through the formation of armed bands, clandestine intellectual networks, and organisations for non-violent struggle.

Resisting the Nazis: Fascism and its Opponents

“Make it new” – during the early 20th century modernist writers produced some of the most innovative and exciting literary texts in English. We’ll examine just why modernists declared it was time to “make it new!” and rejected the certainty of tradition. We’ll read revolutionary modernist fictions and manifestos, sound poems, experimental plays and ground-breaking films. In this subject, we&#39;ll explore modernism as an umbrella term for a multitude of literary responses to modern life - varied, contradictory and contested - and introduce central concepts used in modernist studies. We&#39;ll move between centres of modernist writing, such as London, Zurich, Paris, Berlin and New York to encounter key literary figures and artistic groups who all tried to break new ground in different ways.We will examine questions surrounding the creative tensions between tradition and experiment, the &#39;difficulty&#39; of modernist writing, high- and middlebrow fiction, postcolonial perspectives, gender politics, our own academic practices and the literary canon. Throughout the subject, we will read modernist writing in the context of political &amp; cultural events, as well as contemporary developments in art, film and music. This is a level 3 subject.
