The Bachelor of Education (Primary) has been designed for people seeking to attain an Initial Teacher Education qualification in order to register as a teacher in Australia and any other countries that recognise an Australian teaching qualification. Specifically, this degree provides a qualification for those intending to teach children at the primary level of education.Students will develop advanced critical skills, knowledge and understanding concerning best practice in education and in meeting the needs of children. Students will have four opportunities to engage in professional experience in schools, culminating in a final professional placement of a block one full school term.Subject content includes digital literacy, planning lessons, assessment, classroom management and understanding diverse student needs.Please note that this course is only available to applicants who are residing in Australia for the duration of their degree. As this course doesn’t hold CRICOS registration international students on a Student VISA are not permitted to undertake this course.

Bachelor of Education (Primary Education)

The Undergraduate Certificate in Teaching Education Studies is designed for people who are interested in pursuing a career in early childhood or primary education and gives the student entry (and credit for the four subjects completed) into the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) or (Primary) degree at Curtin. You will explore the world of child development, the use of technology in the classroom for younger school-aged learners, and explore emerging literacy. This course will also examine some of the issues and trends that impact on teaching and schooling.

Undergraduate Certificate in Teaching Education Studies

Keen to explore where a career in education and teaching can take you?The Diploma of Education is a one-year (full-time or part-time equivalent) course that equips students with foundational knowledge and skills in education. The course is a pathway to study for a professional career pathway in education. Students choose a specialisation in either Primary, Secondary or Technology Secondary teaching to shape their studies. The course develops students&#39; knowledge, skills and capabilities for further education and can also serve as a pathway to direct employment in various paraprofessional roles.Diploma of Education graduates are eligible for entry and up to eight units of credit towards the Bachelor of Education.This course is offered through SCU College, where we understand that students have diverse experiences and ways of learning. Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary)

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education is delivered entirely online, using virtual classrooms and meeting spaces; video and webinars; online learning modules and mobile learning apps.This four-year degree includes 180 credit points of advanced standing for the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, as well as relevant work experience. Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

This nationally accredited course is dedicated to producing future teachers ready to enter the primary education teaching profession.A key feature of this course is the range and number of professional practice experiences offered to Pre-Service Teachers, ensuring they can make the essential connection between theory and practice, while building both professional and generic employability skills in real teaching environments.Partnerships between ECU and over 1,000 schools and early learning centres allow for Pre-Service Teachers to gain experience in diverse settings, including public, private, metropolitan, regional, rural or remote schools, working with children from diverse economic, social, ethnic and educational backgrounds. Final year Pre-Service Teachers can apply for a place in the internship program in a school.Pre-Service Teachers also have the opportunity to complete a formal specialisation in their Primary Education qualification. This enables you to obtain a deeper and broader level knowledge and understanding in a particular Learning Area at the graduate level. Units are also available in the degree that enable students to complete accreditation requirements to teach in Catholic schools.

Teaching Language, Literacy and Literature in Junior Primary

This subject introduces students to the course and the expectations of them as they develop into successful university students and future educators.
Students will explore theories of learning and position themselves as learners. This includes undertaking a language competency assessment and exploring the concept of academic integrity with its attendant expectations for research, written communication and oral presentation in academic and professional contexts.
Within the broad concept of education, the development of teacher identity will be informed by an examination of one’s own ethical and socio-cultural values with consideration of educators’ planetary citizenship; cultural diversity and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; along with an educator’s ethical and legislated professional responsibilities, including completion of necessary clearances. It also includes an exploration of personal resilience as an educator.
A key component of the subject will be establishing the Digital Professional Portfolio in which students critically reflect and gather evidence of their capabilities against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (Graduate Teacher Standards) throughout the duration of the course.

The Professional Educator: Developing Teacher Identity

This subject provides an overview of technology enhanced resources commonly used to support teaching and learning. Fundamental skills, attitudes, and approaches that educators require to make effective personal and professional use of such resources in varied educational contexts will be addressed. A key focus will be effective integration of technology to enhance learning, teaching and management processes. Approaches for working in technology-rich educational contexts by which possible harm to one’s self and to others may be minimised through systematic assessment of risk, adoption of safe practices, and ethical behaviour will be explored.

This subject includes a basic overview of approaches, methods, and techniques used in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). It focuses on developing successful classroom practices that address the learning needs and interests of culturally diverse and language minority students. Students in this subject will have the opportunity to apply what has been discussed in the workshops to hands-on teaching practices and detailed lesson planning.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Methodologies

Students are introduced to the International Baccalaureate program, both as a philosophy and framework for learning and teaching. Students examine the essential elements of the International Baccalaureate model including the International Baccalaureate mission statement. Students critique successful teaching practices within these programs. Students focus on developing understandings of international education, values education, and the centrality of the Learner Profile to an International Baccalaureate education as well as exploring theoretical implications of international mindedness.

Introduction to International Baccalaureate Education

This subject will support you to gain the theoretical understandings, skills and methodologies to provide learning and teaching experiences within the Languages domain. You will be required to develop a comprehensive and coherent base of theoretical understandings upon which to base future learning and teaching experiences, which will suit the diverse contexts in which Languages teaching may occur. You will begin to explore and apply to practice contemporary language teaching theories, methodologies, principles and practices as expressed in the ACARA Curriculum: Languages. Current issues in Language teaching will be critiqued to develop the learner&#39;s professional understanding of being a Language educator.

Languages Teaching Methodologies

In this subject, having completed your studies in PHE2HED, you will be able to adopt the role of a health education and development facilitator in one-to-one or small group formats in institutional or community settings. Working in teams and using a range of experiential learning formats, you will develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that will allow you to access and use resources that facilitate the planning, implementation and evaluation of education in diverse circumstances. Drawing on the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (WHO 1986), the Sundsvall Statement (WHO 1991), the Jakarta Declaration (WHO 1997) and the Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion (2005). This subject will enable you to engage salient teaching and learning theories and practices with the view of empowering people as individuals and small groups to engage the factors influencing their health so as to improve their own health outcomes in a globalised world.

Health Education Development

This subject is the first in a sequence of four professional teaching practice focused subjects. The subject will support your understanding and application of key education theories, concepts and skills to develop your professional teaching practice. The first module will introduce evidence-based learning design for secondary teachers to meet the needs of diverse learners. The second module will introduce the theory and application of positive classroom management and the third module will address professional conduct behaviours and effective communication strategies for teachers. This subject is designed to provide a theoretical and practical foundation of essential skills you will need to demonstrate on a school-based professional experience placement. An introduction to complex cultural environments and roles interconnected with Indigenous Australian education. Engage in research that interprets Indigenous historical and contemporary themes to inform meaningful teaching practices.

Indigenous Australian Education

This subject explores the nature of the person of Jesus and his core gospel teachings as understood within the Catholic Church tradition. Participants are to understand Jesus’ mission to proclaim the ‘good news’ of the kingdom of God and how this news is applied through the Perth Archdiocesan Religious Education Units of Work to the life experience of students within Catholic school settings.
