The Bachelor of Education (Primary) has been designed for people seeking to attain an Initial Teacher Education qualification in order to register as a teacher in Australia and any other countries that recognise an Australian teaching qualification. Specifically, this degree provides a qualification for those intending to teach children at the primary level of education.Students will develop advanced critical skills, knowledge and understanding concerning best practice in education and in meeting the needs of children. Students will have four opportunities to engage in professional experience in schools, culminating in a final professional placement of a block one full school term.Subject content includes digital literacy, planning lessons, assessment, classroom management and understanding diverse student needs.Please note that this course is only available to applicants who are residing in Australia for the duration of their degree. Bachelor of Education (Primary Education)

The Undergraduate Certificate in Teaching Education Studies is designed for people who are interested in pursuing a career in early childhood or primary education and gives the student entry (and credit for the four subjects completed) into the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) or (Primary) degree at Curtin. You will explore the world of child development, the use of technology in the classroom for younger school-aged learners, and explore emerging literacy. Teaching Language, Literacy and Literature in Junior Primary

This subject introduces students to the course and the expectations of them as they develop into successful university students and future educators.
Students will explore theories of learning and position themselves as learners. This includes undertaking a language competency assessment and exploring the concept of academic integrity with its attendant expectations for research, written communication and oral presentation in academic and professional contexts.
Within the broad concept of education, the development of teacher identity will be informed by an examination of one’s own ethical and socio-cultural values with consideration of educators’ planetary citizenship; cultural diversity and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; along with an educator’s ethical and legislated professional responsibilities, including completion of necessary clearances. It also includes an exploration of personal resilience as an educator.
A key component of the subject will be establishing the Digital Professional Portfolio in which students critically reflect and gather evidence of their capabilities against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (Graduate Teacher Standards) throughout the duration of the course.

Fundamental skills, attitudes, and approaches that educators require to make effective personal and professional use of such resources in varied educational contexts will be addressed. A key focus will be effective integration of technology to enhance learning, teaching and management processes. Approaches for working in technology-rich educational contexts by which possible harm to one’s self and to others may be minimised through systematic assessment of risk, adoption of safe practices, and ethical behaviour will be explored.

Students are introduced to the International Baccalaureate program, both as a philosophy and framework for learning and teaching. Students examine the essential elements of the International Baccalaureate model including the International Baccalaureate mission statement. Students critique successful teaching practices within these programs. Students focus on developing understandings of international education, values education, and the centrality of the Learner Profile to an International Baccalaureate education as well as exploring theoretical implications of international mindedness.

Introduction to International Baccalaureate Education

This subject will support you to gain the theoretical understandings, skills and methodologies to provide learning and teaching experiences within the Languages domain. You will be required to develop a comprehensive and coherent base of theoretical understandings upon which to base future learning and teaching experiences, which will suit the diverse contexts in which Languages teaching may occur. You will begin to explore and apply to practice contemporary language teaching theories, methodologies, principles and practices as expressed in the ACARA Curriculum: Languages. Current issues in Language teaching will be critiqued to develop the learner&#39;s professional understanding of being a Language educator.

Languages Teaching Methodologies

In this subject, having completed your studies in PHE2HED, you will be able to adopt the role of a health education and development facilitator in one-to-one or small group formats in institutional or community settings. Working in teams and using a range of experiential learning formats, you will develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that will allow you to access and use resources that facilitate the planning, implementation and evaluation of education in diverse circumstances. Drawing on the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (WHO 1986), the Sundsvall Statement (WHO 1991), the Jakarta Declaration (WHO 1997) and the Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion (2005). This subject will enable you to engage salient teaching and learning theories and practices with the view of empowering people as individuals and small groups to engage the factors influencing their health so as to improve their own health outcomes in a globalised world.

Health Education Development

This subject is the first in a sequence of four professional teaching practice focused subjects. The subject will support your understanding and application of key education theories, concepts and skills to develop your professional teaching practice. The first module will introduce evidence-based learning design for secondary teachers to meet the needs of diverse learners. The second module will introduce the theory and application of positive classroom management and the third module will address professional conduct behaviours and effective communication strategies for teachers. This subject is designed to provide a theoretical and practical foundation of essential skills you will need to demonstrate on a school-based professional experience placement. Indigenous Australian Education

This subject explores the nature of the person of Jesus and his core gospel teachings as understood within the Catholic Church tradition. Participants are to understand Jesus’ mission to proclaim the ‘good news’ of the kingdom of God and how this news is applied through the Perth Archdiocesan Religious Education Units of Work to the life experience of students within Catholic school settings.
