The Game and Animation Design major allows students to specialise in the engaging area of visual narrative communication through the means of animation design and development, as well as game design and development. This programme will provide the opportunity to learn theory and fundamentals relevant to visual narrative construction, through the mediums of 2D animation, 3D animation, VFX production, Game design and development and virtual and immersive world design.

Bachelor of Arts (Animation and Game Design)

UX Design 1

This subject was previously known as VAR100 Art and Design Fundamentals.
This subject introduces students to the fundamentals common to art and design practices. The aim of the subject is to increase awareness of possibilities and to equip students with conceptual tools that can be used for generating, developing and refining art and design ideas. As well the subject develops analytical skills for trouble-shooting when an art or design work is not developing as intended.

In this 3rd year level subject, students will engage with advanced digital product design concepts and have an opportunity to synthesise them through the conceptualisation, design, iteration and development of a comprehensive digital product that addresses real world design problems. DigEx Major Project 1

The designer&#39;s use and application of computer modelling are extended in this subject for the purposes of digital production and manufacture. Parametric Solid modelling software CAD is further used and applied to create form, interface, and instructions for digital fabrication. The required application of technical communication to Australian and international standards is established. Low-fidelity physical modelling techniques studied include object printing, laser engraving and profile shaping. Design for Digital Technologies

In this subject, you will be introduced to basic features of the design toolsets used in digital fabrication. Weekly online content will assist you in developing the underpinning technical skills required to become proficient in 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) modelling.  These skills include:  <ul><li>File management  </li><li>2D sketching  </li><li>3D modelling  </li><li>Sheet metal part construction </li><li>Using assemblies, constraints and joints </li><li>Developing drawings and presentations. For your assessment tasks, you will use these skills to solve a user specific design problem.  </li></ul>To achieve this, you will follow the design thinking process to design a product that effectively meets the end users’ specific requirements, reflecting on how your solution meets their objectives. You will also explain the environmental impact of your design and identify ways in which the lifecycle of the product can be structured in order to meet sustainability objectives. You will then use the presentation facilities within the CAD software program to share your solution.This subject also introduces learning through practice by exposing you to authentic learning experiences. These experiences are placed at the centre of learning and assessment, so you have the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary to respond to industry, community and/or global needs.  You will be introduced to a range of methods, tools, techniques and approaches to practice. This will enable you to understand the root cause of design problems and develop solutions through active inquiry. You will also consider a range of principles and perspectives in your design work such as values, ethics, empathy and leadership while operating in real world scenarios. Upon completion of your projects, you will use reflection and deliberative thinking as a means of developing knowledge, skills, attitudes and aspirations.
