This subject develops skills and knowledge that enable students across all disciplines to make informed and responsible decisions using accounting and financial information. The unit explores different forms of business and financing options and how these affect business decisions through the understanding of financial statements. Students will learn about basic accounting and financial terminologies; cash and accrual accounting, capital investment decisions, business financing, time value of money, triple bottom line reporting and business budgeting. Explore how accounting supports responsible decision making in business. You’ll get to know key terms and break down different types of accounting information. Learn how to interpret financial statements. Make informed decisions. 

Financial Decision Making

This subject will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of economics, marketing, law, and accounting principles. The subject will focus on the basic concepts and techniques in accounting that apply to business; law with a business context; as well as giving attention to the basic principles relating to economics. It will explore the decisions made by individuals and groups, and the impact this had on wealth, income and everyday living. Students will be shown how to apply basic economic, marketing, legal and accounting concepts to practical situations therefore shedding light on key commercial operations.
Please Note: This subject cannot be used as credit towards a university degree. However, it is designed to enable students to qualify for entry to an undergraduate degree.

Begin to build a foundational understanding of economics and how it affects business and society. Address concepts such as supply and demand, inflation and budgeting. Get a sense of where the fields of accounting and law fit in in a business context.

Introduction to Commerce

This subject builds upon foundational knowledge of management systems including performance management and control systems aligned with organisational strategy.

Accounting, Behaviour and Control

The subject aims to provide students with knowledge of accounting transactions. It applies the conceptual framework and the objectives of the financial statement. It focuses on understanding, defining and recognising various elements of financial statements and the use of computerised accounting software. Accounting - The Fundamentals of Business

Students will explore typical business processes in an international context that will capture the responsibilities necessary when communicating with different stakeholders. Major themes throughout the course include: objectives and procedures of internal control systems, typical business documents and reports analyses, system documentation, relational database design and data analytics. Students will be introduced to up-to-date technologies that can impact on the risks associated with business processes. This will assist students in applying the theory learnt in the unit to practical situations.
