Marketing Communications in a Digital World

Integrated Marketing Communications offers overall knowledge of approaches marketers adopt to communicate the value of their products and services across various communication tools. It explores the various strategies and tactics utilised by companies to create cohesive and effective marketing messages. In this subject, you will develop knowledge of the concepts, frameworks, and models of integrated marketing communications. You will learn to critically analyse the integrated marketing communications practices of a business. Further, you will learn to utilise appropriate tools to develop an integrated marketing communications campaign for a company.

Good communication skills are essential to managing people and organisations. Management Communications will provide students with theoretical understanding of what communication is (hint: communication is everywhere, all the time!), and a range of practical communication skills relevant to managing people and organisations in a variety of contexts.Students will deepen their understanding of key communication models, conduct audiences analysis, select appropriate media (hint: email is not the only nor necessarily the best way to communicate with people), and craft compelling communications suited to a range of issues and contexts.The subject includes individual assessments, group assessments, and peer-review. Peer-review is used to provide students with additional subject-matter feedback (i.e. in addition to what the teaching team provides) as well as the chance to experience (and get better at!) giving and receiving feedback, which are essential communication skills.Workshops will be activity-based, provide time for hands-on learning, group work, presentations, and peer feedback.Management Communications will stretch you, but in a good way. By the time you’ve completed the subject, you’ll be a more confident and competent communicator, equipped with skills to help you effectively manage people and organisations.

Social media literacy has become essential to the work of most professions but particularly for professional communicators in both strategic communications and media. This course covers the theory and practice of social media usage to take advantage of the opportunities of social media while navigating the risks that come with communicating on a global scale. Students learn the practices of ethical social media use and how to identify and manage the potential legal hazards. Through case studies the students will understand how organisational risks can lead to audience outrage, brand damage, litigation, and crises. Stakeholder theory and risk analysis tools will be used to teach how to anticipate, identify, address and balance opportunities and risks through social media strategy. Students learn to distinguish between personal and professional social media use and to work within their organisations&#39; social media policies when engaging online.

This subject will enable students to consolidate and apply the diverse skills and knowledge gained in their degree in preparation for entry into professional practice. Students will work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams on an applied project relating to their specialisations. Media and Communications Capstone

Using examples from both global studies and domestic politics, this subject examines contemporary ideas and theories about diplomacy, activism, negotiation, leadership and communication in politics and policy-making to equip you with the skills to pursue a range of career avenues. Through a series of action-oriented readings, practical seminars and workshops, you will analyse and discuss different traditions, behaviours and practices in the field of politics. You will be encouraged to reflect upon what you have learned about politics throughout their degree, consolidate their knowledge and skills, and explore their practical applications. The modules in this subject are designed to help you develop real-world skills including include political leadership, political communication (written and visual), diplomacy and negotiation, and activism. You will be assessed over a variety of tasks including the production of a piece of written political communication, a short piece of political analysis, personal reflections and the production of a political campaign.This is a level 3 subject.
