This course offers a conceptual framework covering public policy perspective on international trade, the impact of multilateral institutions and trade blocs on global business, foreign direct investment and management of multinational corporations. The course provides a basic foundation for understanding specialised courses in technology and the global economy, global marketing and entrepreneurship in a dynamic business environment.Students should not enrol in this course if they have previously completed 1005IBA Introduction to International Business and 2030IBA Global Business at Griffith University.

Global Business

This course considers the global manager&#39;s environment including the functions of management and the skills required to operate in the dynamic business world of today. The course offers an introduction to major management concepts needed in global operations, such as organisational structure, systems, control mechanisms and talent management. This course provides students with a framework for critical understanding the contextual, strategic and operational issues of export management. It covers the operational aspects of international trading and enhance students&#39; ability to apply integrated discipline knowledge to formulate an export plan and to deal with practical challenges such as exporting documentation, payment methods, financing options and legal considerations. As a result, students&#39; employability in the field of international business will be greatly improved. Whenever applicable, industry engagement, such as a field trip to the Port of Brisbane, company visit, and guest presentation will be incorporated in the course to offer students opportunities to understand the dynamic nature of international trade. Prerequisite: Students must have successfully completed 80 credit points prior to enrolment.Students should not enrol in this subject if they have previously completed 2011IBA Export Management at Griffith University.

Export Management

This course surveys the comparative political economy of East Asia, a highly dynamic region and one of critical importance to Australia&#39;s economic prosperity and security. It examines nine countries, including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. Within these national settings, it focuses on government interventions in national economies and business involvement in politics, and activities that have helped to shape different rates of economic growth and political openness.
