About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, the student should be able to:
- Critically evaluate the theory and practice of safety and quality in healthcare management.
- Investigate safety and risk management in healthcare.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of tools and implementation strategies.
- Appraise legislative regulations and professional practices.
- Critique current approaches and future challenges for safety, quality and risk management.
- Module 1: Achieving safety and quality in healthcare organisations: integrating theory and practice
- Module 2: Identifying, monitoring and addressing organisational and clinical risks
- Module 3: Quality management processes, practices and tools for the improvement of healthcare delivery
- Module 4: Collaborative practice for safe and high-quality healthcare
This subject will enable students to appraise the theory, practice and process for achieving safety and quality in healthcare organisations. The subject focuses on identifying quality management processes, practices and tools for the review and improvement of healthcare delivery. Additionally, strategies and mechanisms for safety and risk management will be identified and evaluated. The focus will be on how managers engage healthcare professionals, patients and the community to deliver safety and quality requirements. The subject identifies tools and implementation requirements of legislative regulations and professional practices. Students will have opportunities to hear from experts across Australia and participate in industry case studies and analysis.
Students are required to be familiar with all module content by the end of week 10, as assignments will draw on all modules.
