About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, the student should be able to:
- Investigate the role and impact of policies and systems in dementia locally and globally
- Critically analyse the major drivers of local and public policy in relation to dementia
- Examine policy and system evaluation relevant to health and well-being for people living with dementia
- Critically analyse major national approaches to the design of health care systems in relation to the needs of people with dementia
- Week 1 - Introduction to CAD503
- Weeks 2-3 - Module 1: Foundations of policy and systems in dementia
- Weeks 4-5 - Module 2: Evaluation and measurement of policy impact
- Weeks 6-13 - Select and complete 2 of the 3 modules- Module 3: Post-diagnostic support and the role of rehabilitation, Module 4: The role of policy in restraint practices, Module 5: Hospitals and dementia
This subject examines the effect of policies and systems on the societal impact of dementia, and the effective provision of support, services and resources to people with dementia and the people who care for them, including approaches enabling independent living and optimum health. National approaches to dementia care and health system design are compared and contrasted with respect to current and anticipated needs and financial impact. Students study four modules and a choice of applied modules to tailor their learning to particular interests. Assessments are both online for the content modules, and in the form of written assignments enabling the student to relate the course material to their individual professional and/or personal context.
