Evidence Based Pharmacotherapeutic Practice
About this subject
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- Create PICO frameworks to structure pharmacotherapeutic questions.
- Collate appropriate evidence-based research using MeSH terms.
- Develop techniques to refine search strategies to return more relevant studies.
- Critically appraise scientific literature using knowledge of the hierarchy of evidence, sources of bias, and research methodology.

This subject is a self-directed, fully on-line introductory subject, that uses patient cases to develop your research skills to make evidence-based decisions This subject introduces important concepts and develops skills in evidence-based medicine, asking and answering well-articulated clinical questions, and critical review of research literature. You will also develop evidence-based practice skills such as framing an answerable research question and search strategies for a patient's unique circumstances. You will use medical databases, and learn how to identify high-quality evidence. The skills developed in this subject will enhance independent clinical decision-making.

Additional requirements
- Other requirements - Teaching Arrangement: 10 hrs weekly self directed learning including online tutorials (live and recorded). We assume that Pharmacists undertaking this subject will have a general knowledge of most of the therapeutic areas covered, as well as have the necessary skills to interpret laboratory and patient data. Some students may need to refresh and revise this knowledge, due to the many different backgrounds and training that our students have.
