About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, the student should be able to:
- Critically evaluate the theory and practical application of electronic health records locally and internationally.
- Analyse drivers and trends influencing the development of electronic health records
- Critique possible points of tension in the socio-technical system
- Debate the ethical considerations of the development, use, and management of electronic health records
- Module 1: Electronic Health Records (EHR2)
- Module 2: Managing Health Information
- Module 3: EHR Adoption and Implementation
- Module 4: External Analysis: Political, Economic and Legal. Future challenges.
- Module 5: Ethical Dilemmas of EHRs
- Module 6: Prioritising Infinite Health Needs
This subject explores the evolution of the electronic health record (EHR). It examines the definition and context of the EHR, records management, the benefits and barriers of EHRs, the national health information agenda, the EHR as a socio-technical tool, ethical considerations, and the future of EHRs.

- Other requirements - Teaching Arrangement: Online tutorial 1 hr x 6 times per semester. Independent learning approx 10 hrs weekly.
