About this subject
On completion of this subject students should be able to achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Critically analyse the principles of educational assessment and evaluation.
- Apply the principles of quality assessment and evaluation practices.
- Create different types of assessment strategies that are fit for purpose including appropriate tasks and marking criteria and standards.

Good assessment and evaluation in Higher Education has the potential to improve student learning, satisfaction, confidence in academic standards and retention. This subject allows teachers in higher education to advance their understanding of contemporary assessment practice by a critical engagement with contemporary assessment literature. From this foundation, students have the opportunity to examine how assessment is woven into the teaching and learning cycle and design and develop assessment instruments appropriate to Higher Education.
