Culturally Responsive Pedagogy for EAL/D Students

About this subject

  • Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:

    1. demonstrate understanding of current multicultural, anti-racism and EAL/D education policies and programs with a focus on student safety and wellbeing (GTSD 2.4.1, 4.4.1, 7.2.1);
    2. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of learning theories, strategies for differentiating teaching to modify and use classroom resources, address the specifics of child and adolescent development and meet the learning needs of students across diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds (GTSD 1.1.1, 1.3.1, 1.4.1, 1.5.1);
    3. demonstrate understanding of culture, race and identity, the impact of cultural and linguistic factors on the performance of students in schools, and strategies for culturally relevant pedagogy to support inclusive student participation and engagement in classroom activities (GTSD 3.6.1, 4.1.1);
    4. demonstrate rationales and strategies for school-community partnerships and working effectively with parents/carers for the education of students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (GTSD 3.7.1, 7.3.1, 7.4.1); and
    5. demonstrate understanding of ethical issues related to education in a culturally and linguistically diverse society (GTSD 7.1.1).

To enrol in this subject you must be accepted into one of the following degrees:

  • UNE-SPE-DEG-2024 - Bachelor of Special and Inclusive Education (Primary)

Others

Candidature in the Bachelor of Special and Inclusive Education Primary.
To enrol in this subject you will need to pass the Prerequisite/s. Please note as UNE results are released after the close of enrolment date, your enrolment into this subject will be withdrawn if you do not pass the prerequisite subject/s.

Additional requirements

  • Equipment requirements - Headphones or speakers (required to listen to lectures and other media). Headset, including microphone (highly recommended). Webcam (may be required for participation in virtual classrooms and/or media presentations).
