About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate further upper intermediate level listening and speaking skills in Japanese with coherence and accuracy and basic awareness of the generic structure of authentic spoken texts;
- demonstrate further upper intermediate skills in reading and writing in Japanese with coherence and accuracy; consolidation of approximately 500-550 previously learned kanji and an additional 100-120 new kanji; and basic awareness of the generic structure of authentic written texts;
- apply further upper intermediate knowledge of structures and lexico-grammar through the study of different types of texts or genres; and
- apply extended knowledge of further aspects of Japanese socio-linguistics and socio-culture relevant to inter-cultural communication at an upper intermediate level.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.

In this subject you will continue to develop your listening and speaking skills in Japanese to an upper intermediate-level and you will enhance your skills in reading and writing Japanese. You will also build your awareness of some aspects of Japanese society and culture relevant to intercultural communication at an upper intermediate-level and create practical language learning strategies to employ as you progress.
Language Assessment 1: Aural/oral and written assessment. 2250 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-4;

Take Home Exam: 2000 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 2-4.- Aural/oral and written assessment (20%)

- Take Home Exam - It is mandatory to pass this component in order to pass the unit - 2 hrs 15 mins (50%)

To enrol in this subject you will need to pass the Prerequisite/s. Please note as UNE results are released after the close of enrolment date, your enrolment into this subject will be withdrawn if you do not pass the prerequisite subject/s.
Students who have had a break of several years from the time they last studied Japanese language units should discuss their proposed program of study with the Discipline Convenor before enrolling in this unit.
First language (Japanese) speakers may not enrol in Japanese language units except when required for (school) teaching accreditation in Australian states and territories.
