Introduction to Plan Making
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate developed skills in graphical communication;
- demonstrate developed skills in data analysis;
- apply skills in field work and site analysis; and
- demonstrate an understanding of land use planning techniques.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
Plans are vital instruments in urban and regional planning. They envisage the future of a local environment and shape land use and development practice.
Making plans requires a diverse skill set, including site analysis, data analysis, mapping, plan drawing, and code writing. In this subject you will be introduced to these skills through a wide variety of practical exercises.
As the subject progresses, you will develop an understanding of how these practical skills help build towards an integrated plan. At the end of the subject, you will understand how graphical communication, data analysis, site investigation, and built form analysis contribute to planning work.
Class participation: Assessed participation in class work for on-campus students and discussion board for online students. Relates to Learning Outcome 4;
