Introduction to Indigenous Australia
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of Australia's Indigenous Peoples;
- clearly discuss past, current and future issues affecting Indigenous Australians;
- identify, evaluate and analyse key concepts and critical thinking used in Indigenous Studies; and
- display skills in investigation, formulation, evaluation and analysis of Indigenous Australia political issues.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
This subject promotes a deeper understanding of Indigenous Australia: past, present and future. When studying, you will consider the varied experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of identity, diversity, representation and resilience. The subject provides you with important conceptual and background information which will be of great use in a range of professional environments; from social work to policy making.
Assessment 1: Online Posts in Module Forums - 1800 words. Students will be required to submit five posts and five replies to peer posts. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-4;
Assessment 2: Essay - 1200 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-4;
Assessment 3: Essay - 1500 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-4.- Online posts in Module Forums (40%)
