About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate accuracy in listening, speaking, and reading and writing skills in Indonesian language at an upper-intermediate to advanced level; and, recognise, analyse and use a wide range of advanced grammatical structures;
- apply knowledge of an extended variety of vocabulary and appropriate expressions and registers;
- use well developed cognitive skills to synthesise and analyse critically information when communicating in Indonesian at an advanced level; and
- apply advanced knowledge of Indonesian cultural and social norms and Indonesian society within the context of a range of topics.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
Building upon your knowledge from second year Indonesian, this subject will further enhance your confidence in your language skills. You will develop your competence in reading, writing, understanding and speaking Indonesian at an upper-intermediate to advanced level. You will continue your Indonesian language development and the advancement of cultural understanding through the study of a variety of moderately complex texts from sources such as Indonesian newspapers, magazines, etc. covering themes such as life in Indonesian cities, education, religion and politics. Learning and acquisition is enhanced through 'real life' communicative tasks and activities. Discussion of contemporary issues and other activities will be conducted mostly in Indonesian. Grammar will be taught in order to enhance learning and the acquisition of the language.
Assessment 1: Language Assessment 1. 1250 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-4;
Assessment 2: Oral Exercise. 1000 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1, 4;
Assessment 3: Language Assessment 2. 1750 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-4;
Assessment 4: Take Home Exam. 2 hrs 15 mins. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-4.- Language Assessment 1: 1000 word written assessment plus oral/aural components. 1250 (equivalent) (20%)
- Language Assessment 2: 1500 word written assessment plus oral/aural components. 1750 (equivalent) (25%)
- Oral Exercise: Spoken interview, online or via telephone, on topics covered over the trimester. Tested on fluency, pronunciation, intonation, aural comprehension, and ability to use a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures in Indonesian. (10%)
- Take Home Exam: 2hrs 15mins. Written examination with aural components. Students will be tested on their knowledge of vocabulary, grammatical structures, listening comprehension, and their reading and writing skills. (45%)
