Global Indigenous Experiences
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of Indigeneity and the diversity of Indigenous communities globally;
- clearly and effectively communicate an understanding of factors impacting on Indigenous communities internationally;
- apply concepts and thinking used in Indigenous Studies;
- display skills in investigation, formulation, evaluation and analysis of the politics of Indigeneity; and
- demonstrate an ability to compare Indigenous communities in Australia with those around the globe.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
This subject was previously known as Indigeneity: A Global Experience.
This subject promotes understanding of contemporary Indigenous communities around the globe. It considers the importance of Indigeneity as central to discussions on the world stage and to some extent at the nation-state level. You will spend some time comparing Indigenous communities in Australia with those around the globe by applying concepts and thinking used in Indigenous Studies. The subject provides you with important conceptual and background information which will be of great use in a range of professional environments; from social work to policy making.
Assessment 1: Online Posts in Module Forums - 1800 words. Students will be required to submit five posts and five replies to peer posts. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-5;
Assessment 2: Essay - 1200 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-5;
Assessment 3: Essay - 1500 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-5.- Discussion in Module Forums (40%)
