About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate increasing autonomy in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in French;
- utilise intermediate structures and functions of the French language, in particular grammatical structures;
- communicate with increasing autonomy in French at an intermediate level with some depth on selected topics;
- apply extended knowledge of French cultural norms and society; and
- use developed cognitive skills to analyse and synthesise information when communicating at an intermediate level.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
Building upon FREN201, FREN202 will further enhance your confidence in your French speaking skills. In this subject, you will develop your conversational skills on a number of topics about French and Francophone culture. You will progress to a point where your French communication skills will equip you for advanced level study of the language and its film and literature. Pursue your goal of becoming a confident communicator in a second language and future proof your career in a global economy where over 275 million people speak French.
Assessment 1 Grammar and vocabulary assessment: 800 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcome 2;
Assessment 2 Written language exercises: 1000 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 2-5;
Assessment 3 Podcast (online): 2000 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-5;
Assessment 4 Oral Examination:1500 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-5.- Grammar and vocabulary quizzes. 800 words (equivalent) (15%)
- Podcast script: 1000 words (equivalent) (20%)
- Podcast. 2000 words (equivalent) (35%)
- Live discussion. 1500 words (equivalent) To take place via an online platform. (30%)

First language (French) speakers may not enrol in French language units except when required for (school) teaching accreditation in Australian states and territories.

- Equipment requirements - All students must have a PC or Mac capable of playing and recording audio. Oral assignments must be submitted online as an mp3 recording (instructions on how to do this will be provided). Headphones or speakers (required to listen to lectures and other media). Headset, including microphone (highly recommended). Webcam (may be required for participation in virtual classrooms and/or media presentations).
- Software requirements - It is essential for students to have reliable internet access in order to participate in and complete your units, regardless of whether they contain an on campus attendance or intensive school component.
