Fraud Prevention and Investigation
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the types of fraud that can be perpetrated on individuals and organisations;
- critically analyse situations that lead to the perpetration of fraud in an organisational setting; and
- identify and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of a range of methods of fraud prevention, detection and investigation.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
Fraud is a pervasive problem that has significant consequences for individuals, organisations and society. In this subject you will hone your understanding of the causes of fraud and their significance in effectively fighting this white-collar crime. Examining the types of fraud that can be perpetrated on individuals and organisations, you will critically analyse situations that allow fraud to occur. You will explore a range of methods for preventing, detecting, investigating and resolving fraud committed against organisations and individuals.
Assessment 1: Written Task 1. 1750 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-3;
Assessment 2: Written Task 2. 1750 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-3;
Assessment 3: Quiz. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1, 2;
Assessment 4: Final Examination. 2 hrs 15 mins. Students must obtain at least 50% in the final examination (and 50% overall) to receive a pass (or better) in the unit. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-3.
There is a supervised exam at the end of the teaching period in which you are enrolled. The exam will be offered online with supervision via webcam and screen sharing technology. Coordinated by UNE Exams Unit.
UNE manages supervised exams associated with your UNE subjects. Prior to census date, UNE releases exam timetables. They’ll email important exam information directly to your UNE email address.- Assessment 1 - Written Task 1. 1750 words (15%)
- Assessment 4 - Final Invigilated Examination. 2 hrs 15 mins. Students must obtain at least 50% in the final examination (and 50% overall) to receive a pass (or better) in the unit (60%)
- Assessment 2 - Written Task 2. 1750 words (15%)
- Assessment 3 - Quiz. Word length is not applicable due to the quantitative nature of this assessment task (10%)
