Developing Modern Languages Conversational Skills
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate conversational skills in the target language appropriate to level;
- apply strategies for turn-taking, monitoring mutual understanding and repair of misunderstandings in oral discussion;
- utilise essential vocabulary that relates to everyday situations;
- use functional language to communicate across a range of social settings;
- apply knowledge of elementary grammatical structures of the target language; and
- demonstrate an understanding of key social-cultural issues and the associated conversational conventions influencing communication in the target language.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
Become a confident communicator in your target language (Indonesian, Italian, Japanese or Spanish) by developing your aural and oral skills in this practical subject.
You will build vocabulary that relates to everyday situations, consolidate your knowledge of elementary grammatical and syntactical structures and develop an understanding of key social-cultural issues and the associated conversational conventions.
If you have completed the 101 and 102 units in your target language, if you are a returning language student, or if you have prior beginner knowledge of your target language and wish to hone your conversational skills for work, travel or interest, this subject is for you.
Assessment 1: Online quizzes. 1500 words. Relates to Learning Outcome 3-6;
Assessment 2: Oral research project (podcast or video) and reflection. 2000 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 3-6;
Assessment 3: Oral Examination. 1500 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-6.- Online Quizzes (30%)
