Creative Arts Key Learning Area
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge and practical understanding of content relevant to the NSW Creative Arts K-–6 Syllabus (GTSD 2.1.1, 2.2.1, 2.3.1);
- apply knowledge and skills to create an effective learning environment, and use a range of teaching strategies and resources appropriate to K-–6 Creative Arts (GTSD 3.1.1, 3.2.1, 3.3.1, 3.4.1, 3.5.1, 5.2.1);
- demonstrate a practical understanding of the processes involved in effective curriculum development in relation to planning, programming, assessment, reporting, and evaluation, relevant to implementation of Creative Arts, including Australian Aboriginal content (GTSD 2.3.1, 2.4.1, 3.3.1);
- demonstrate an understanding of the place of the Creative Arts within the school and the wider community, and the contribution the Creative Arts make to students’ personal, social and intellectual development (GTSD 1.1.1, 2.3.1, 4.4.1);
- demonstrate understanding of how students learn, including students from diverse backgrounds and different abilities, and strategies for using ICT for teaching (GTSD 1.2.1, 1.3.1, 1.5.1, 1.6.1, 2.6.1); and
- demonstrate knowledge and skills to create a safe and supportive learning environment by including creative arts activities that all students can enjoy and providing clear directions for classroom activities, and to use informal and formal assessment strategies and consistent and comparable judgement of student learning (GTSD 4.1.1, 4.2.1, 5.1.1, 5.3.1).
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
The Creative Arts plays an important role in primary school classrooms. In this subject you will be learning valuable practical skills and increasing your knowledge base in Music, Dance, Drama and Visual Arts so that you enter your future Kindergarten to Year 6 classroom with confidence. You will examine the place of the Creative Arts within the school and the wider community, and how the Creative Arts makes a positive contribution to the personal, social and intellectual lives of your future students. In this subject you will learn to plan engaging lessons, how to integrate the Creative Arts in subjects across the curriculum and how to link them directly to curriculum outcomes. You will explore what it means to provide a safe and effective learning environment for your students and you will explore how students learn through the Creative Arts disciplines of Music, Dance, Drama and Visual Arts.
Assignment: Written. 1600 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-6;
Portfolio: Visual Arts. 1200 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-5;
Portfolio: Drama. 1200 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 2, 4, 5.- Music and Dance Teaching Activities - 1600 Words (40%)
- Visual Arts Portfolio and Planning Task - 1200 Words (equivalent) (30%)
- Drama Portfolio and Planning Task - 1200 Words (equivalent) (30%)
