About this subject

  • On successful completion of the subject you should be able to:

    1. Differentiate between mild cognitive impairment, dementia, delirium, depression, and Parkinson’s disease and evidence-based approaches to prevention, assessment, treatment, and supportive care of older people experiencing neurocognitive disorders.
    2. Apply principles of person-centred care to the management and support of older people with neurocognitive disorders across healthcare settings.
    3. Design enabling physical and social environments to support older people living with neurocognitive disorders throughout the disease trajectory.
    4. Critique models of care that recognise, assess, and manage responsive behaviours expressed by people with dementia.
    5. Apply the biopsychosocial model of pain to the assessment and management of pain in people with cognitive and communicative impairment.
