Bioethics and Law for Health Care Leadership
About this subject
On successful completion of the subject you will be able to:
- Interpret the professional values that influence your professional practice and contribute to legal and ethical decision-making
- Reflect in practice in a professional role, the responsibilities regarding legal and ethical decision-making
- Analyse how educational, contextual, political and economic factors may influence legal and ethical decision-making within health care
- Communicate knowledge of clients’ rights, and the right of competent clients to be active participants in decision-making about their care, and how this may be achieved
- A week-by-week guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
This subject will prepare you to take a leadership role in the workplace that allows collaboration in ethical decision-making. The focus is on recognising actual and potential ethico-legal dilemmas in professional practice, and how decisions are made, justified and reviewed. A conceptual framework will be used to explore the decision making process while examining actual and perceived roles, professional values, and communication and collaboration practices when decisions with an ethical and/or legal dimension have to be made.

The assessment component of this subject includes:
(i) Case study analysis involving peer discussion of the two cases on LMS with a final write up for each case study;
(ii) Ethical problem solving essay;
(iii) Contributions to online discussion topics.
Written feedback will be provided on the first three assessments to facilitate student learning and the achievement of unit outcomes.- Online Discussion (25%)
