About this subject
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Identify and assess environmental characteristics that influence regions and their development and how they can be addressed while planning regional settlements.
- Identify features of environmental continuity that need to be considered in strategic and statutory regional planning.
- Communicate specialist knowledge of environmental impact assessments at the regional level for integration into spatial planning and translation into sustainable regional development.

In this subject you will develop a comprehensive understanding of natural environmental considerations when planning for regional scale projects. You will undertake planning studio work which will illustrate planning as a process of broader policy framing with a special focus on the spatial manifestation of environmental features and how they relate to place/s. You will grapple with key environmental challenges and address them through statutory and strategic planning perspectives. Topics covered include natural resources, watersheds and catchments.
This is a level 2 subject. Please consider the subject pre-requisites before enrolling.
- Review of an Environmental Management Plan (900 words). (20%)
- Assessment of natural resources in a region. (1350 words). (30%)
- Individual site based environmental project (2250 words). (50%)
