About this subject
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Apply learning and educational principles and nutrition science translation and communication approaches to design and deliver group nutrition education sessions
- Apply learning and educational principles and nutrition science translation and communication approaches to design and use nutrition education resources and materials.
- Analyse and interpret the health, food, nutrition and socio-cultural factors affecting nutrition outcomes for priority groups to determine nutrition needs in Australian contexts.
- Develop a nutrition education intervention to influence the food and nutrition for a target audience through application of a systematic program planning approach.
- Participate in reflective practice as part of developing personal practice, recognising limitations of practice, providing and responding to feedback.

This subject focuses on how to interpret the nutrition priorities of target audiences, understanding their educational needs and use learning and education principles and science translation approaches to translate nutrition science for everyday audiences. Using the Program Management Cycle, you will systematically approach nutrition education and develop a suite of nutrition education resources for specific community groups. This is a practical skills subject that supports your development and delivery of nutrition information for the benefit of community members.
- Nutrition Needs Assessment (800 words). This is an early assessment piece that will occur within the first three weeks of the teaching period. (20%)
- Part A: Nutrition Program Plan (1300 words) (35%) Part B: Written reflection (700 words) (10%) (45%)
- Simulated delivery of Nutrition Education (15 min) (25%)
- Review of peers’ nutrition promotion program planning and education session delivery. (10%)
