About this subject
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Converse on topics of common occurrence in Hindi speaking areas.
- Engage in Enquiry and evaluate complex sources before applying synthesis and understanding at a foundational level.
- Select appropriate readings, analyse topics and develop relevant language forms.
- Write and read intermediate level texts using a vocabulary of around one and a half thousand words.
- Develop an awareness of the importance of socio-cultural skills.

In this subject you will continue your journey with the development of listening and reading comprehension skills and will focus on the development of active language skills in both oral and written forms. This includes the study of modern Hindi grammar and vocabulary, and training in and reflection on language learning strategies which will be provided every week. You will also study two Hindi stories written by ASHK. You will explore issues related to the parallel Sanskrit and Urdu vocabularies, the structure of complex sentences and the use of idioms and proverbs. You will also reflect on concepts such as perceptions of the partition of India and Pakistan and how they are dealt with in literature and popular culture and will watch Bhag Milkha Bhag film based on this topic.
This subject includes live sessions with the expectation of student attendance and participation.

What’s a single subject?
Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
How can I use single subjects to get into a full degree?
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
