Early Years Literacy and Numeracy

About this subject

  • On successful completion you will be able to:

    1. Describe a range of research informed literacy and mathematics learning processes of young children from birth to 8 years.
    2. Demonstrate an understanding of relevant theoretical perspectives and concepts in literacy and mathematics teaching for children from birth to 8 years of age.
    3. Research and develop appropriate and effective learning experiences, teaching strategies, including play based and intentional teaching, to shape literacy and mathematics curriculum for children from birth to 8 years of age, in response to relevant curriculum documents.
    4. Develop and collate a range of appropriate ideas and resources to support young children’s learning in areas of literacy and mathematics, including relevant ICT resources.

Prerequisites: Students must be admitted in the following course: EBECEO.
Past La Trobe University students who have previously completed EDU2ELM (Early Years Literacy & Numeracy) are ineligible to enrol in this subject.

Study load
