About this subject
On successful completion you will be able to:

- Independently interpret cognitive psychological research to develop logical and well supported conclusions for written assessments.

This subject will provide you with an introduction to the scientific study of human information processing. It will cover (i) the central theories and issues in perception and cognition (ii) the processes involved in acquiring, storing, retrieving and using knowledge, and (iii) some of the real-world applications of cognitive psychology.
This subject will enable students to:
- Develop understanding of human cognitive processes, and the means by which they can be studied experimentally;
- Develop an in-depth, critical understanding of research in cognitive psychology, including: perception, memory, language, problem solving and creativity, thinking and reasoning, psychology and the law;
- Develop understanding of the strengths and limitations of the information-processing approach, and how it applies to human functioning in the real world.
This subject consists of timetabled lectures and tutorial classes. It is typically taken by students in their second year.

What’s a single subject?
Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
How can I use single subjects to get into a full degree?
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
