About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- develop a knowledge base of the literacy practices, programs and approaches for teaching English to children in junior primary
- critique and contest current theories and issues in teaching English to a linguistically diverse group of children in junior primary
- analyse effective teaching of language, literature and literacies curriculum for a diverse group of junior primary children
- design and create learning experiences which link theory and practice for effective teaching of language, literature and literacies for junior primary children.

This subject was previously known as EDC231 Teaching Language and Literacy in Junior Primary.
This subject engages students by developing their knowledge base of language, literacy and literature in the Junior Primary phase of schooling. It expands on this knowledge by encouraging critical analysis of key theories and practices in the teaching of English to diverse groups, culminating in the ability to design purposeful learning opportunities.
