About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- research and explain contemporary literacy and numeracy theories, pedagogies and practices
- examine the literacy and numeracy demands and conventions across and within the curriculum
- evaluate and recommend a variety of teaching and learning strategies, including ICT, for numeracy and literacy within disciplines
- use discipline-specific literacy and numeracy research and models to address the literacy and numeracy demands within a selected learning area

This subject examines literacy and numeracy as a dynamic, evolving, social, and cultural construct. It focuses on identifying and understanding the literacy and numeracy demands and conventions in all learning areas, predominantly in subjects other than English and Mathematics. This is accomplished by developing an awareness of opportunities for the planning and application of disciplinary and critical literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum.
