About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- apply intermediate grammatical structures appropriately to communicate about general aspects of their own and Korean society and culture at an intermediate level of proficiency
- demonstrate the ability to comprehend and debate the main ideas or significant information from authentic spoken and written Korean materials
- describe and exchange information on cultural and social issues, such as social customs for significant life events
- create intermediate-level passages on aspects of Korean workplace, society and culture, and compose longer, grammatically accurate narratives
- demonstrate the incorporation of various clausal connectives and transitional words to make sentences more complex

This subject is an intermediate level subject suitable for students who have successfully completed Korean Intermediate 1 or who have an equivalent level of competency. Taught through interactive and self-directed engaging learning approaches and materials, this subject will enable students to progress their Korean language competency and cultural literacy in various aspects of Korean society and culture to prepare them to live and work in Korea.
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to both read and produce intermediate level authentic materials in Korean and gain further confidence in using Korean language in everyday and workplace settings.
Upon successful completion of Korean Intermediate 3 and 4 students will reach a level of competency equivalent to TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) scale of proficiency upper 2/ lower 3.

In order to achieve the learning outcomes of this subject, each week students are expected to study for at least five hours as follows:
(a) Prior to joining the simultaneous online face to face sessions, students should listen to the online lecture grammatical points, and engage with the set preparation materials for the week as outlined in Blackboard.
(b) Spend at least 30 minutes to go over new vocabulary.
(c) Participate in 2x45 minute sessions via simultaneous online class environment.
(d) Complete and submit weekly online exercises to support memorisation of learning materials, and to engage with the feedback provided.- Weekly practice submission (20%)
- 2 online tests (Invigilated) (50%)
- Spoken (oral) demonstration (30%)

Study load
- 0.125 EFTSL
- This is in the range of 10 to 12 hours of study each week.

What’s a single subject?
Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
How can I use single subjects to get into a full degree?
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
