Humanities and Science in Early Childhood
About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of the humanities and social sciences and science curricula and principles associated with effective teaching in the early years as outlined in the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum
- research and justify the use of an inquiry based approach to learning in the humanities and social sciences and science curriculum areas for a diversity of learners
- develop appropriate content, assessment items, teaching strategies and resources related to the Australian Curriculum for a nominated age group
- reflect on and appraise professional knowledge and student learning as applicable to the humanities and social sciences and science curriculum areas
- Inquiry Learning HASS in the Early Years Science in the Early Years
This subject will examine the humanities and social sciences and science curricula through an inquiry-based learning approach. A major focus of the humanities and social sciences learning area is on the ways in which children investigate and develop knowledge of their families, local area and sustainability practices. A major focus of the science learning area is to develop scientific knowledge in relation to biological, chemical, earth and space, and physical sciences. Students will apply these through the development of inquiry activities for early years learning environments.
